Syria condemns killing of Nahel M by French police

Syria strongly condemned the cold-blooded and deliberate murder of the teenager Nahel M, a 17-year-old boy, in a suburb of Paris by the French police, a source at Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said Saturday.

“Syria joins those who advocate an end to racist behaviours that are rooted in the French authorities, mainly targeting members of the communities,” the source noted.

This crime reflects the racist colonial mentality, which belies the French government’s claimed values of equality and non-discrimination, the source indicated.

Price of 21-karat gold hits JD39.8 per gramme in local market

Prices of 21-karat gold, the highest demand at local market, stood at JD39.30 per gramme, as purchasing price, against JD37.60 as selling price, an official said Saturday. Jordan Jewelers Association’s Secretary General, Ribhy Allan, told Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the price of 24-karat and 18-karat gold amounted to JD46.30 and JD34.90 respectively. The price of a Rashadi lira, weighing seven grammes, stood at JD275, while an English lira, which weighs eight grammes reached JD314, Allan said. Demand and supply for gold in the local market are at an “average” level, Allan added. He added that gold prices in global markets on Friday reached $1,920 per ounce. Gold prices are stable awaiting US economic data that will be released in the second half of this month, Allan explained.

Syria hosts group teams of Asian qualifiers for 2024 Paris Olympics

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has agreed to grant Syria the right to host the Asian qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics, scheduled on August 12th at al-Fayhaa Sport City in Damascus.

Head of the Basketball Association, Tarif Qutrash said that the ( FIBA) has chosen Damascus to host these qualifiers due to the fulfillment of all the conditions set by the International Federation , stressing that this event is being held for the first time in Syria and constitutes an entitlement in the Syrian sport.

The draw for the qualifiers for the basketball competition that qualifies for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 placed the Syrian national team in Group B, along with the teams of Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.

Group A included Chinese Taipei, South Korea, India and Bahrain, provided that only one of the eight teams qualifies for the Paris Olympics, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

With participation of Syria, The MINEPS VII concludes works

The 7th International Conference on Physical Education and Sports ( MINEPS) concluded works with participation of Syria held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, from the 26th to the 29th of last June.

Participants in the conference emphasized combating sports doping, working to find investments to support sports in all its forms, and making the Lifelong Fitness initiative, which was a slogan of the conference, a practical reality and not just a slogan.

The Syrian delegation included the head of the Department of Physical Education in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zarir, and a member of the Executive Office of the General Sports Federation, Firas al-Azab.

Syria’s participation came in response to the invitation of UNESCO and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

A Delegation of Australian Bishops in Aleppo On a Solidarity Visit

The delegation of bishops from Australia visited Aleppo archaeological places of worship and the old city of Aleppo with its markets.

The delegation briefed on the damage caused to civilian areas and property following terrorism and the earthquake of February 6th.

Archbishop Boutros Marayati, Head the Armenian Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo and its surroundings , underlined in a statement to SANA the importance of effective coordination between the Syrian churches and the whole world to support and help the people exhausted by the embargo imposed on Syria.

The members of the delegation met with the Governor of Aleppo, Hussein Diab, stressing that the bishops support the Syrian people.

For his part, the governor of Aleppo indicated that the unjust embargo against Syria hinders the process of development and reconstruction.

Member of the Australian delegation, representative of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Anba Daniel, affirmed the importance of standing by Syria as an authentic oriental country that offers the world everything that is civilizational and constructive.

The Archbishop of Australia and New Zealand of Orthodox Armenians, Haigazoun Najarian, insisted on the importance of the unification of rank in international forums and called for the lifting of the iniquitous embargo targeting Syria.
