JUDGE ABU SAMRA POSTPONES LOOKING INTO STATE’S LAWSUIT AGAINST RIAD SALAMEH UNTIL MAY 18

Beirut First Investigative Judge Charbel Abu Samra has postponed looking into the State Prosecution’s lawsuit against Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, his brother Raja Salameh, and his assistant Marianne Hoayek, until forthcoming May 18. The decision came after the lawyers of the defendants submitted a memo objecting to the lawsuit filed against their clients by the Authority of Cases at the Ministry of Justice without prior permissions of the finance minister.

Syrian-Iraqi talks on the judicial and legal field

Minister of Justice, Ahmad al-Sayyed, discussed with President of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq, Faeq Zaidan, prospects for enhancing joint cooperation in the judicial and legal field.

Both sided discussed during the session held on Thursday drawing up a judicial cooperation agreement between the two countries in many affairs, of which the civil, criminal and personal status matters along with extradition of criminals and liquidation of estates.

The discussion also touched upon the requirements for developing scientific aspects in the judicial field in terms of benefiting from all experiences in the scope of legislation related to judicial work, in addition to exchanging between the Higher Judicial Institute in Syria and the Judicial Institute in Iraq.

At the end of the session, the two sides stressed the necessity of continuing coordination and bilateral consultation to develop a joint action mechanism.

INFORMATION MINISTER URGES ACCURACY BROADCASTING LATEST SOUTH LEBANON SECURITY DEVELOPMENTS

Caretaker Information Minister, Ziad Makary, on Thursday said via Twitter, ‘In light of the latest security developments in south Lebanon, I call on media outlets to be careful and not rush to broadcast unconfirmed news, bearing in mind that the only official source for receiving accurate and correct security information is the Lebanese Army’s Guidance Directorate.’

Arnous, Zaidan discuss boosting bilateral cooperation, especially in judicial field

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, discussed on Thursday with President of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq Judge Dr. Faeq Zaidan, means to strengthen cooperation between the two brotherly countries in different fields, especially the judicial one, along with the study of signing joint judicial agreements that contribute to strengthening the national and strategic security of both countries.

Arnous stressed the importance of finding new prospects and formulas for cooperation and optimal investment for the capabilities of the two countries in order to achieve common benefit.

Arnous expressed his appreciation to the Iraqi government and people for providing support and relief assistance to the earthquake-affected people.

Zaidan asserted that his visit to Damascus carries a message of solidarity and confirmation of Iraq’s standing by Syria.

Zaidan noted the importance of strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation, which reflects the deep-rooted historical relations binding the peoples

MAKARY MEETS MEDIA PROFESSIONALS WHO COMPLETED CIVIL DEFENSE WORKSHOP

Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Makary, and his Advisor, Misbah al-Ali, on Thursday met at Tele Liban building in Beirut, with a delegation of media professionals who had completed a civil defense workshop held in cooperation between the Ministry of Information, the General Directorate of Civil Defense and the International Press Lebanon website. The delegation thanked Minister Makary for patronizing the relevant media activities, with discussions touching on the issues of media immunity, social security, retirement and insurance. Fake news and organizing electronic websites were also discussed. Minister Makary suggested holding workshops related to the proposed media law, as they would serve as a specific referendum in which journalists would give their opinion in order to reach common ideas between the MoI and media professionals. Minister Makary underlined his support for the media corp, pointing out that the Publications law does not reflect modernity and development taking place in the global media renaissance, stressing “the need to amend it at the earliest opportunity.”

Israeli artillery bombs areas in Southern Lebanon

Israeli occupation forces hit with artillery the two towns of Maaliyeh, Qlaileh and Zibqine Valley in Southern Lebanon.

This aggression was under the pretext of targeting the Israeli settlements by missiles in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Lebanese National News Agency affirmed that the Israeli occupation’s artillery shelled from their bases in the north of Occupied Palestine the outskirts of the towns, in Tyre District, Southern Lebanon.

According to the agency, a number of Katyusha rockets were launched from the Sector West region towards the Israeli settlements, north of the Palestinian lands.
