PRESIDENT ABBAS APPRECIATES SPAIN’S PRINCIPLED POSITIONS ON PALESTINIAN QUESTION


President Mahmoud Abbas today appreciated Spain’s principled and consistent positions on the Palestinian Question.

In a letter he addressed to Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, President Abbas expressed his appreciation to Spain for its longstanding and principled positions on the Palestinian Question throughout decades of legitimate struggle.

He also appreciated Spain’s support for just peace and stability in the region, particularly given the ongoing Israeli genocidal offensive against the Gaza Strip, as well as its recurrent calls for an immediate ceasefire and contribution to alleviating the catastrophic situation affecting the Palestinian people through providing unlimited relief and humanitarian aid.

He also commended Spain for its valuable efforts aimed at recognizing the independent State of Palestine and implement the two-state solution.

He affirmed to the Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez that he and the Palestinian people were fully confident that thanks to his wisdom and expertise as well as
to his country’s approach to justice and respecting human rights, Sánchez would take the appropriate decision, in line with Spain’s interest, to achieve international peace and stability.

He concluded his letter by wishing the friendly state of Spain along with its King and people more progress and prosperity.

AL-RAHI PATRONIZES LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF PATRIARCH ESTÉPHAN DOUAYHY’S BOOK IN BKIRKI: HE CARRIED THE EVANGELICAL MESSAGE IN THIS EAST


Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi patronized on Saturday the launching ceremony of the book entitled, ‘Le Patriarche Estéphan Douayhy et le Patrimoine Oriental de l’Antiochéité à la Libanité,’ written by Professor Tanios Njeim and preface by the President of the Maronite League, Ambassador Khalil Karam.

Marking preparations underway for the celebration of the beatification of the Honorable Patriarch Estéphan Douayhy, a ceremony was held in Bkirki today at the invitation of the head and members of the Maronite League Executive Council.

In his delivered word on the occasion, Patriarch al-Rahi welcomed the attendees partaking in this special gathering, witnessing Professor Tanios Njeim’s book launching and signing of his work that sheds light on the lifetime of the late Honorable Patriarch Douayhy whose beautification will be celebrated next August 2 in Bkirki.

Rahi considered that Njeim’s valuable work ‘comes in its desired circumstance to constitute the best scientific reference on the per
sonality of the Honorable Patriarch Estéphan Douayhy, his holiness, and great legacy…’

He added: ‘This book, with its 271 pages according to the French version, presents to us in three large sections the personality of the late Patriarch, his virtues and characteristics, his pastoral activities, and his intellectual output.’

Al-Rahi went on to indicate that the works of the late great Patriarch are divided into four:

1. Historical works

2. Liturgical works

3 Various works, including philosophical, linguistic, economic and translated works

4. Correspondences, church dedications, judicial rulings, and miscellaneous letters.

‘Therefore, Patriarch Estéphan Douayhy is unanimously considered the greatest patriarch in the Maronite Church, after the first Patriarch, Saint John Maroun…He is considered the most trusted authority among those who wrote in the Ottoman era. pioneers of the intellectual renaissance in the East,’ al-Rahi went on, reiterating the huge significance and great value of the spiritual legacy left behind by Patriarch Douayhy.
