Makhlouf discusses with Chinese ambassador enhancing cooperation in all domains

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussein Makhlouf discussed Thursday with China’s Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the new phase of early recovery and reconstruction in all areas.

The two sides affirmed they are keen on providing necessary supplies to accelerate the assessment of damaged buildings in addition to carrying out development projects, notably those contributing to the return of people affected by the earthquake to their homes at the earliest.

Makhlouf underlined the deeply-rooted ties between the two countries, hailing China’s support for Syria in all international forums and its vital role in the humanitarian response to the earthquake.

China was the one of the earliest countries to dispatch humanitarian assistance and emergency supplies to those affected, Makhlouf noted.

Hongwei, for his part, asserted that China will sustain providing humanitarian aid that meet the requirements for each phase, ranging from tools for detecting earthquake-damaged buildings to the food assistance and others.

He extended condolences to the families of the victims by the devastating earthquake, praising the country’s endeavors to mitigate its impacts.

Foreign Minister meets Brunei Second Minister for Foreign Affairs

Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al zayani today held a meting with Brunei Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji on the sidelines of the OIC Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed joint cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Brunei Darussalam across all fields. Issues of mutual interest were discussed.

TENENTI: UNIFIL HAS NOT DETECTED ANY CROSSING OF THE BLUE LINE IN THE RECENT DAYS

The UNIFIL read media reports stating that an individual had infiltrated into Israel from Lebanon, but it did not detect any crossing of the Blue Line in the recent days, said Andrea Tenenti, spokesperson of the peacekeeping force. He added that UNIFIL Commander Major General Aroldo Lazaro calls both sides for self-restraint and for preserving stability, as well as resorting to the force’s coordination and liaison mechanisms to avert any misunderstanding or tension.

ROMANIAN EMBASSY AND ROMANIAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE ORGANIZE MUSICAL EVENING AT SAINT MAROUN CHURCH IN GEMMAYZEH TO CELEBRATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROMANIA’S ENTRY INTO ORGANIZATION OF LA FRANCOPHONIE

The Romanian Embassy and the Romanian Cultural Institute organized a musical evening at the Saint Maroun church in Gemmayzeh on Tuesday evening to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Romania’s entry into the Organization of La Francophonie, entitled “Romania en voyage musical francophone” (Romania on a musical francophone jourbey) , with the presence of the Romanian ambassador H.E.Radu-Catalin Mardare, but also Lawyer Fawaz Kabbara, vice-president of the National Authority for the fight against corruption, former deputy Mr. Ghassan Moukheiber , Dr. Heba Kawwas director of the National Conservatory, as well as the Program Director of the Lebanese Radio Ms. Rita Najim Al-Roumi, and a number of ambassadors, consuls and cultural, academic and social personalities. The evening was animated by the pianist Denis Dubois of the French Opera, the International Lyric Soprano Micaela Mingueras, the international violinist Ondin Brezeanu, as well as the Lebanese Tenor Bechara Moufarrej and M.William Barakat. The ambassador made a speech in which he welcomed the audience and then continued: “Two thousand and twenty-three is the year of the anniversary of Romania’s 30 years of full right membership to the institutional Francophonie. Our country is one of the important actors within the Organization, both in terms of financial contribution and of actions undertaken to promote the Francophonie and its values: peace, democracy and human rights as well as cultural diversity and solidarity for the development of countries having French in common’. He added: “On the occasion of the Francophonie Summit in Bucharest in 2006, the Romanian government decided to create the “Eugène Ionesco” scholarship program – a program of doctoral studies and post-doctoral research, intended for French-speaking researchers enrolled in member universities of the ‘Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie’ (Francophonie University Agency). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has so far awarded grants to more than 1,200 researchers from 39 countries. He continued: ‘Bucharest hosts the OIF Regional Representation for Central and Eastern Europe and the Regional Directorate of the ‘Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie’. Romania was designated in 2007 as the “flagship state of la Francophonie” in this same region. This anniversary is placed under the high patronage of the President of Romania, with the theme: “The Francophonie of the future: education for sustainable development”, and some of the milestones are the French-speaking conference dedicated to the debate on this theme, the official inauguration of the ‘Maison de la Francophonie’ (House of Francophonie) on the campus of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and the organization of the Francophone Economic Summit’. Then a young lady from the organizing crew introduced the artists: ‘The Franco-Romanian Soprano Micaela Minghera?, soloist of the Paris Opera but also Bordeaux, Lyon, Limoges and Montpellier, has a very large list of roles, and more than 600 concerts with baroque music, orchestras and recitals. She supports young Lebanese, Romanian and French talents with her association PRO Voces. She gives ‘Master Classes’ in New York, Paris, Beirut and Bucharest. As she is often called upon as a musical adviser on singers’ records. Today she sings alongside her former student Béchara Moufarrej. Denis Dubois, French, is the best vocal coach at the Paris Opera – Bastille, but also Assistant Conductor. He directed Placido Domingo, Nadine Sierra, Prety Yende, Anna Netrebko and many others… He is always listening to the young generation and always positive in his wonderful work and tonight he will accompany our artists on the piano. Romanian violinist Ondin Brezeanu is one of the best Romanian violinists, who for 20 years was „Concert Maestro’ in the Beirut Philharmonic Orchestra. He is an accomplished soloist, from a family of musicians, who plays on all stages of the world. Mr. Brezeanu is currently „Concert Maestro’ in the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra. POPE MEETS MIKATI, URGES LEBANESE OFFICIALS TO ELECT NEW PRESIDENT

Pope Francis on Thursday received Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, to whom he reiterated his “belief in the message Lebanon embodies through the cultural and religious diversity that makes it a distinguished and unique country in the region.” The Pope also stressed the importance of solidarity among the Lebanese officials in order to exit the crises sweeping the country, and urged them to elect a new president of the republic. Mikati arrived to the Vatican earlier this morning, accompanied by Lebanon’s Ambassador to the Holy See, Farid Khazen, and his diplomatic advisor Boutros Asaker. The PM and the Pope held a 30-minute meeting behind closed doors. “I had an excellent meeting with his Holiness,” said Mikati. “I expressed to him my belief that Lebanon’s historic message is now spreading across the Arab world,” he added. “The key challenge is to preserve and consolidate this message, and enhance the values of peace and fraternity,” he underlined. Mikati said he handed the Pope a letter that explains the situation in Lebanon and the possible remedies to which the Vatican can contribute through the contacts it holds with the international community, especially regarding the presidential election. The PM also invited Francis to visit Lebanon.

MIKATI MEETS VATICAN’S SECRETARY OF STATE, SECRETARY FOR RELATIONS WITH STATES

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday held talks with the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Secretary for Relations with States, Paul Richard Gallagher. The meeting reportedly touched on the situation in Lebanon. During the talks, Mikati stressed the importance of the Vatican’s support for Lebanon before the international community to complete the election of a president of the republic. For his part, Cardinal Parolin emphasized readiness to help Lebanon in all fields.
