The US announced on Saturday that it had temporarily closed its Khartoum embassy and launched a military operation to extract its personnel and their families. Secretary of State Antony Blinken meanwhile pledged to assist US civilians in the country. Washington also said that no mass evacuation is currently being planned. In addition, France on Sunday announced that it had begun evacuating its citizens and diplomatic staff. Sudanese meanwhile are also trying to flee the country, after a three day ceasefire agreed for Eid quickly broke down.
