Jordan urges human rights organizations to broadcast events in Gaza

Lower House Speaker Ahmed Safadi has called on human rights organizations to broadcast the killing, displacement, and inhumane abuse of children and women happening in Gaza, in light of the media blackout practiced by the Israeli occupation to conceal the truth from the world.

During a meeting of the parliament’s Public Freedoms and Human Rights Committee, attended by representatives of human rights organizations and institutions operating in Gaza, Safadi emphasized the need for more efforts to raise awareness about the atrocities committed by the brutal occupation in the Gaza Strip.

The committee’s chairman, MP Abdullah Abu Zaid, condemned the global silence and great betrayal of humanity in the face of the tragedy witnessed in Gaza, as well as the bias toward the Zionist side, which attacked and carried out crimes and genocide, displacement, targeting hospitals and schools, and cutting off energy, water, and medicine to civilians.

He praised His Majesty the King for his key role in stopping the war, pro
viding humanitarian corridors, and bringing in relief, stressing that His Majesty had forewarned of this eruption due to the refusal to provide Palestinians their rights and the onslaught on their life for a long period.

Cristina Albertin, the Regional Representative for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Middle East and North Africa, emphasized that the organization has been fully committed to the UN’s international standards for 23 years.

She further stated that the current human rights crisis demands immediate attention towards the protection of civilians and their rights during the war.

Significant dip in passenger traffic recorded at King Hussein Bridge

The King Hussein Bridge, which serves as a key point of entry and exit for passengers, has experienced a decline in its operations since the outbreak of the war on Gaza.

Nidal Shamayleh, the Director of the Bridge’s customs office, stated that in October, the office recorded only 3,000 passengers arriving and departing due to the restrictions imposed by Israel, compared to 19,000 passengers in September.

As for freight movement, the office recorded the transit of around 8,000 trucks, which is significantly less than the previous month’s 15,000 trucks, added Shamayleh.

He noted that the border crossing had been closed multiple times since the war on Gaza started, allowing passage only for tourists, embassy diplomats, and foreign nationals evacuations.

Shamayleh pointed out that there is ongoing cooperation with the other side to increase the number of travelers and trucks without imposing any restrictions on the Palestinians. Additionally, efforts are being made to facilitate the entry of aid convoys carr
ying wheat and medicines to the Palestinian side.

House Foreign Committee, Brazilian envoy talk Gaza developments

Chairman of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, Khaldoun Haina, said priority now focuses on halting Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip, killing of civilians, women and children, allowing humanitarian aid to enter the coastal enclave as quickly as possible, and ending Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution.

During the committee’s meeting with the Brazilian Ambassador to Jordan, Marcio Fagundes, Haina warned of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and its repercussions on the entire region, due to lack of a political horizon for resolving the Palestinian cause.

Haina also demanded Israeli occupation to respect international resolutions and the international community and respond to calls to stop the brutal aggression against Gaza Strip.

The situation in the West Bank began to worsen due to settlers’ attacks on Palestinians, under support of the Israeli occupation forces, he noted.

Meanwhile, the committee’s members valued Brazil’s position regarding the Israeli aggre
ssion on Gaza, referring to similarity of views on common issues, primarily the Palestinian issue.

The lawmakers stressed that Brazil plays an “important and major” role in the United Nations General Assembly, which contributes to making the region more secure and stable.

The MPs called for increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two friendly countries, and benefiting from mutual expertise in all fields to serve common interests.

For his part, Fagundes said his country agrees with Jordan over a political vision to achieve the region’s peace, stability and security, valuing Jordan’s role, under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, regarding the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

The King, Fagundes noted, always talks about the law and its implementation, as the demarcating line from chaos, noting that Jordan is a “major” factor for moderation and efforts to achieve the Middle East stability.

Regarding Israeli aggression against Gaza, Fagun
des said: “His country supports implementation of all resolutions issued by the United Nations concerned with protecting rights of states to their security and stability,” stressing Brazil’s rejection of all types of violence.

Through its official channels, he said Brazil rejects the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, adding that his country supports Jordan to end the Middle East conflict.
