Economic, governance clusters pass petroleum management bill

The governance and economic clusters of the national government on Friday passed the Petroleum Management Amendment Bill 2023.

The clusters also asked for more clarity from the National Constitutional Amendment Committee (NCAC) on the Public Financial and Accountability Act 2013 amended 2022 bills.

Addressing the media after the joint clusters meeting, the Minister of Petroleum Puot Kang Chol said they will invite the NCAC to deliberate on the Public Finance and Accountability Act next week.

“During the deliberation, the Petroleum Revenue Management Act 2013 Amendment Bill 2022 was passed unanimously by the two clusters whereas the Public Finance Management and Accountability Act Amendment Bill 2022 was sent back to the ministry of justice with the intention that there will be a joint meeting of the two clusters again where we shall invite the National Constitutional Amendment Committee who are the drafters of the bill to come and clarify on some queries,” Kang said.

“The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday next week where will discuss such act together with the petroleum act 2012 and then after, whatever recommendation we make shall be submitted to the council of ministers for deliberation and resolution,” he added.

The meeting was chaired by the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar Teny and attended by the members of the two clusters respectively.

The Petroleum Management Amendment Bill 2023 will be sent to the Council of Ministers and then to the national assembly for deliberations and enactment.
