Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global University (TAG-GU), a member of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), launched its professional program ‘Journalism Diploma’ to enhance the knowledge and skills in the field of journalism and media, as well as to provide outstanding educational experiences that match labor market’s needs. The Program covers several topics including an introduction to journalism, perception of news, fake news and alternative facts, English language for journalists, films, photos, and historical interpretation in the 20th Century. Muhannad is in his fourth year of study at the university. He obtained a 95% average in high school and was able to enroll in the College of Engineering, to obtain in all his semesters the distinction of “Academic Excellence” and to be on the honor board and among the top students in the college. However, all of that He was unable to obtain a scholarship to continue his educational career without worry.

Muhannad is from a needy family. The father abandoned his family and there is no breadwinner for the family. He and his sister are forced to work outside of their university work to provide the basics of the house, including food and drink, in addition to the monthly house rent, which amounts to a thousand shekels. His mother suffers from high blood pressure and heart diseases, and her health condition is unstable.

Muhannad hopes to continue his university studies until he obtains a university degree that will provide him and his family with a better future. He would like to register for his first semester and may lose his university seat if his university fees of 5,225 shekels are not available.

The Higher Education Council Monday announced a gradual timeframe setting the number of admissions in medical and dentistry disciplines in public universities for the years 2023-2024 and on to 2027-2028. Under the plan, which was endorsed at a meeting chaired by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Azmi Muhafzah, 1,000 students will be admitted in human medicine studies, distributed as follows: University of Jordan (UoJ) 200, Yarmouk University 150, Mutah University 150, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) 200, Hashemite University (HU) 150, and Balqa Applied University 150. The Council also said that 300 students will be enrolled in the dentistry faculties of UoJ, JUST and HU, 100 each (after the Hashemite University obtains special accreditation). In the 2024-2025 academic year, only 800 students will be admitted in the medicine major in all public universities, and admissions to dentistry faculties will be reduced by 20 percent. As for the academic year 2025-2026 and beyond,
only 640 students will be enrolled in medicine in all Jordanian universities, and there will be a 20 percent reduction in dentistry admission numbers for the year 2025-2026 only. The Higher Education Council stressed that the decision came to control the quality of higher education outputs, particularly in these two key specializations, and safeguard the reputation of Jordanian universities through abiding by the capacities of universities and check current increases in admission numbers. The Council highlighted the need to cut the number of graduates in these two specializations to curb unemployment among them in the future.

The non-profit organization Madrasati (my school) has partnered with the European Union and the Ministry of Education to launch a project supporting quality education and safe school environments. The project aims to prioritize the safety and attractiveness of the learning spaces and encourage community involvement in 100 public schools, by collaborating with directorates, school principals, teachers, students, and parents, according to a Madrasati statement issued Monday. The goal is to enhance education quality by partnering with the local community and involving parents in the planning, participation, monitoring, and evaluation of the school’s needs alongside the school staff. Six education directorates, including Ajloun, Madaba, Karak, Ein Al-Basha, Kourah, and Na’our, participated in the project with 400 attendees present.

The Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA) welcomed a delegation from Oman’s Ministry of Education, specifically from the Specialized Institute for Vocational Training for Teachers (SIVTT). The purpose of the visit was to observe and gain insights from the QRTA’s effective implementation of training programs tailored for teachers and educational leaders across Jordan and the broader Arab region. Osama Obeidat, CEO of the Academy, emphasized the significance of developing and equipping educational personnel as a crucial aspect of advancing the educational process to meet the evolving demands of the Arab region in keeping pace with the skills required in the twenty-first century. Emphasizing the significance of exchanging experiences and knowledge among educational authorities in Arab countries, he underscored that the Academy has emerged as a model and a valuable point of reference in this domain. Furthermore, Obeidat reiterated the Academy’s unwavering dedication to fostering regional cooperation, recognizing it
s potential to greatly enhance the quality of teacher training and educational leadership within the region. Additionally, he emphasized the QRTA’s steadfast commitment to offering innovative experiences in professional development for educators and warmly embraced opportunities for collaboration and establishing connections with other Arab countries. The main purpose of the visit was to facilitate a comprehensive exchange of experiences and knowledge regarding teacher training and the development of their skills. Additionally, the visit sought to promote cooperation between Oman and Jordan, with the goal of enhancing successful practices in developing educational personnel. The delegation had the opportunity to engage in a meeting with the Academy team, where they were presented with an overview of the institution’s progress, including human resource models, organizational structure, quality assurance, and training methods. Furthermore, the delegation visited schools and met with beneficiaries of the QRTA’s
programs to gain insights into their experiences and the impact on student achievement and the overall educational environment. Discussions also focused on methods and practices that contribute to improving the quality of training and meeting the evolving demands of the labor market, particularly in terms of the necessary competencies for teachers and educational leaders. For her part, Intisar Ambusaidi, SIVTT Director General, expressed that this visit was a result of the leadership’s directives in both countries to strengthen cooperation and partnership frameworks, and it also came to activate the frameworks of partnership, cooperation, and experiences exchange between the two institutions. Ambusaidi further stated that the purpose of this visit was for the Institute to acquire knowledge and gain insights from the Academy’s experiences. She highlighted that the QRTA achieved international accreditation for its Teacher Education Professional Diploma (TEPD) program from the Council for the Accreditation of Ed
ucator Preparation (CAEP). Moreover, it is recognized as a trailblazer in implementing professional programs for educational leaders and teachers, ensuring rigorous quality control measures and effectively assessing their impact.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced today the availability of a number of scholarships in the field of postgraduate studies (Master’s and Doctorate) in the Republic of Pakistan, for the academic year 2023-2024.

The Ministry also announced the availability of a number of scholarships for the year 2023-2024 at the Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences in Pakistan, to obtain a bachelor’s degree in various specializations.
