Jordan’s electricity load reaches 3,550mw on Monday

Amman: Jordan’s electrical load reached 3,550 megawatts on Monday evening, as reported by the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).

During this winter season, the maximum load reached its peak at 4,050 megawatts, as per official data.

It is noteworthy that the highest electrical load ever recorded in the Kingdom took place last August, reaching an unprecedented peak of 4,220 megawatts.

Jordan-Kuwait Committee Convenes to Boost Economic Cooperation

Amman: The Jordanian-Kuwaiti Trade Technical Committee convened in Amman on Tuesday to deliberate on key initiatives aimed at bolstering commercial cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two nations.

The meeting was chaired by Dana Zoubi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, and Ziad Najem, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Highlighting Kuwait’s pivotal role as a strategic partner, Zoubi emphasized the significance of these deliberations in elevating trade and investment ties to new heights, leveraging existing partnerships across various sectors.

Echoing this sentiment, Najem outlined the committee’s comprehensive agenda, designed to facilitate the development of commercial, industrial, and investment relations, while also addressing pertinent challenges hindering intra-regional trade.

Both parties underscored the vast potential for expanded economic cooperation, particularly in trade, industry, and investment domains, underscoring the i
mportance of regular committee meetings to invigorate bilateral economic and trade relations.

Discussions during the meeting centered on enhancing collaboration across various sectors of mutual interest, including economy, industry, industrial zones, small and medium enterprises, standards, customs, agriculture, transportation, and healthcare.

With high expectations pinned on the outcomes of these deliberations, both sides anticipate strengthened trade and economic ties, streamlined access to each other’s markets, and the formulation of partnerships and agreements paving the way for future collaborative projects.

Cyprus-Jordan Cultural Partnership Strengthened Through High-Level Talks

Amman: Minister of Culture Haifa Najjar met with Cyprus Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou, at the Royal Cultural Center in Amman, aiming to bolster cultural ties between both nations.

Najjar highlighted Jordan’s rich historical and cultural heritage, emphasizing its openness to diverse cultural influences that enrich societal progress and intellectual development.

She extended an invitation for Cyprus to partake in the 2024 Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts.

Kassianidou urged Jordan’s participation in the Limassol International Book Fair and the annual “Platform for Dance” festival in Nicosia.

Expressing interest in collaborating on EU-funded cultural initiatives, Kassianidou sought to leverage Jordan’s expertise in traditional crafts and exchange experiences in this domain.

The meeting underscored the current cultural relations between Jordan and Cyprus, focusing on avenues for advancement.

Both parties committed to activating the Cultural Cooperation Protocol Agreement (2023-2026), pr
ioritizing collaboration in cinema, art festivals, and promoting literary works through translation and exchange programs.

Additionally, discussions centered on sharing expertise in safeguarding intangible heritage and its inclusion on global lists.

King commends development witnessed by Irbid over past years

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday praised the development Irbid has witnessed over the past years, as evidenced by major water, energy and infrastructure projects, as well as the enhancement of education and health services.

Speaking at a meeting with local community leaders and figures in the governorate held at the King Abdullah II Park, His Majesty said Irbid has witnessed a remarkable expansion, and its population has significantly increased.

At the meeting, attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the King said that witnessing Jordanians’ achievements and meeting with them makes him more optimistic.

His Majesty said Jordan’s strength lies in in its sons and daughters who have had the spirit of achievement and faith in their potential instilled within them, stressing the importance of moving forward with this spirit.

For his part, Irbid Governor Radwan Otoum said the governorate has witnessed over the past 25 years quantum leaps in development that covered economy, education, healthcare,
and tourism, adding that the country is witnessing comprehensive modernisation across the political, economic, and administrative tracks.

Also during his visit to Irbid, His Majesty inaugurated Ibder Comprehensive Secondary School in Bani Kinanah district, a Royal Initiatives project built on an area of 7,000 square metres with a capacity of up to 1,000 students.

The King also visited the Jordan Research and Training Reactor, which functions as an educational and training platform that also supports medical and industrial fields.

His Majesty was briefed on the capabilities of the reactor, which is operated by Jordanians and abides by all nuclear safety measures, as it provides all the Kingdom’s hospitals with basic radioisotopes used for cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as supporting the fields of medicine, biology, chemistry, forensic analysis, mining, agriculture, industry, and scientific research.

Upon arrival at the King Abdullah II Park prior to the meeting, the King, accompanied by the Queen,
was received by Ramtha Youth Folk Dance Group and the Mghaier Rahoub Band to Revive Jordanian Culture.

During the meeting, His Majesty bestowed the Silver Jubilee Medal on individuals and institutions in Irbid, in recognition of their contributions to serving Jordan, especially the local community in the governorate.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Kneiaan Bluwi attended the meeting.

New Jordanian aid convoy heads to Gaza

Amman: The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), in cooperation with the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army, Tuesday sent a 24-truck convoy to the Gaza Strip, loaded with 427 tons of food aid.

The convoy carried food parcels and flour as a donation by Human Appeal organization, Al-Imdaad Foundation, South Africa, Tkiyet Um Ali, and the World Food Program (WFP).

The land convoy crossed the King Hussein Bridge Tuesday afternoon en route to Gaza as the Royal Jordanian Air Force was airdropping relief supplies to the Strip, JHCO Secretary-General Hussein Al-Shibli said in a statement.

“The convoy is part of Jordan’s efforts to support our people in Gaza, due to the current circumstances they are going through. It has been prepared with food and relief supplies to be distributed to Gazans,” he said.

Al-Shibli said his organization will continue to receive donations and coordinate to bring aid by land and air to “stand by our people in the Gaza Strip.”
