King, in call with French president, stresses importance of immediate Gaza ceasefire

Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II, in a phone call on Sunday with French President Emmanuel Macron, stressed the importance of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the protection of innocent civilians.

His Majesty highlighted the importance of maintaining the flow of sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza, noting that the catastrophic humanitarian conditions facing Gazans require the immediate action of the international community to limit its exacerbation.

The King warned of extremist settler violence against the Palestinians in the West Bank, and violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

His Majesty also warned of the danger of the Israeli attack on Rafah, which will worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The King stressed the need to create a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, noting the European Union’s vital role in this regard.

Pro-Palestine protesters stage sit-in outside Israeli arms manufacturer in UK’s Bristol

London: Dozens of Pro-Palestine protesters staged a sit-in outside the headquarters of the Israeli military equipment manufacturer Elbit in the Bristol area on Saturday evening, to protest the company’s complicity in the current Israeli war in Gaza.

Bristol Live said, “The protesters carried Palestinian flags and banners denouncing Israel’s atrocities, and delivered speeches demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. They accused the company of contributing to civilian casualties, destroying Gaza’s health care infrastructure, and complicity in committing war crimes in Gaza.”

The website indicated that Elbit is a subsidiary of the largest arms manufacturer in Israel, and manufactures up to 85 percent of the Israeli army’s drone fleet and ground equipment, in addition to missiles, bombs, and bullets.

Ministry Launches Water Awareness Campaign with Private Sector Collaboration

Amman: The Ministry of Water and Irrigation, alongside private sector entities, launched a national awareness campaign “For a Drop” on Sunday, coinciding with World Water Day.

This initiative reflects joint efforts between the government and private sectors to address escalating water challenges, promote efficient water usage, and reduce wastage.

Jihad Mahamid, Secretary General of the Water Authority of Jordan, highlighted the campaign’s objective of enhancing domestic water efficiency and encouraging responsible consumer behavior, underscoring the significance of such campaigns in fostering water conservation, particularly through public-private partnerships.

Emphasizing the importance of water awareness, Mahamid stated that it aligns with the Water Authority’s strategy to secure additional water quantities for citizens. He commended the Jordanian private sector for its role in promoting a national culture aimed at maximizing water utility.

Murad highlighted the potential for public-private cooperation, especially in the water sector, to drive innovative solutions to water scarcity.

He pointed to the ongoing efforts by Jordanian private sector coalitions to establish industries producing water-efficient home appliances, catering to citizens’ needs at affordable prices. This initiative aims to significantly contribute to water conservation efforts on both individual and state levels.

Jordan Partakes in Arab Standardization Day

Amman: The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), representing Arab standardization bodies, is joining in the commemoration of this year’s Arab Standardization Day, themed “Standardization for a thriving economy and sustainable society.”

Every Mar. 25, Arab nations mark the founding anniversary of the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization, and Mining Organization in 1968.

Abeer Zuhair, Director General of the Standardization and Metrology Institution, emphasized in a statement Sunday that the organization will continue crafting standard specifications and technical regulations aimed at addressing contemporary social, economic, and environmental challenges. This endeavor aims to foster a dynamic society and prosperous economy, thereby enhancing living standards and bolstering the national economy.

Zuhair highlighted the pivotal role of standardization in fostering economic growth, enhancing the quality and competitiveness of national products, and driving progress and prosperity at both
national and global levels, ultimately fostering sustainable development and resilient communities.

She noted that the institution has been actively engaged in developing quality infrastructure initiatives in coordination with relevant authorities, adhering to international best practices. It has issued numerous standard specifications to safeguard public health and safety, protect the environment, combat fraud and counterfeit goods, and bolster the competitiveness of Jordanian products.

Over 3,000 Jordanian standards and technical guidelines have been issued across various sectors, products, and services, including those pertinent to sustainable communities, environmentally friendly construction materials, and cities.

Zuhair extended appreciation to all personnel in Arab standardization bodies for their ongoing dedication to preparing standard specifications.

She also commended the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization for its relentless support of regional quality infrastr
ucture activities, bolstering Arab representation and coordinating Arab endeavors on the global stage.

PSD calls for exercising caution due to weather instability

Amman: The Public Security Directorate (PSD) advised the public to exercise caution and due diligence today due to the anticipated weather instability.

The PSD advised people to drive carefully in order to prevent accidents or slips on wet roads, as well as to avoid areas where water bodies and floods could arise as a result of rain, particularly in the east of the Kingdom.

It also emphasized the significance of not sleeping with heating appliances on, using them correctly, and occasionally providing enough ventilation.

Additionally, the PSD advised drivers to exercise caution when driving when dust reduces horizontal vision, particularly in desert regions, and to not hesitate to call the unified emergency number (911) in the event that such a situation arises.

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation condemns Israel’s plans to seize occupied West Bank

Amman: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Sunday condemned the Israeli occupation’s decision to seize 8,000 dunams in the northern Jordan Valley in the West Bank.

The OIC’s issued a statement saying that the Israeli plans to seize lands and build settler units “reflects the Israeli occupation’s persistence in committing more crimes and illegal measures in flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.”

The OIC urged call on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to end all crimes and attacks of the Israeli occupation throughout the occupied Palestinian territory, especially in the Gaza Strip.
