A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hits western Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 4.6 magnitudes on the Richter Scale struck Bengkulu province, off the southwest coast of Sumatra Indonesian island.

“The tremor occurred at a depth of 48.8km, 62km west of the province’s capital, without any human casualties, material damage, or tsunami warnings,” the US Geological Survey stated.

Indonesia is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire (an area with a high degree of tectonic activity) where a majority of the world’s earthquakes occur.
