FIFA Chief congratulates al-Foutoua team, Champion of Syrian Premier League

President of International Federation of Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, congratulated al-Foutoua team, the champion of Syrian Premier League the current season.

Infantion addressed the Syrian Arab Football Federation(SAFF) saying “it is my pleasure to congratulate al-Foutoua team which won league championship 2022/2023, noting that the team won the title due to the collective effort and full commitment of all club’s cadres.

He hailed the efforts exerted by Syrian Football Federation for development and prosperity of football sport in Syria.

New scene of ancient mosaic painting in Rastan city uncovered

The archaeological mosaic recently discovered in Rastan city in Homs countryside has returned to the spotlight, with the discovery of a new third scene in which it embodies the “War of the Centaurs” that was mentioned in the ancient Greek myth in the second half of the 4th century AD.

Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums at the Ministry of Culture announced during a press conference at the location of the painting in the Rastan city on Thursday, that the new scene of the painting is rare for representation and is known in Greek mythology as the “War of the Centaurs” , which gives the painting exceptional importance in the world, with its important scenes, including the central scene which represents the “God of the Sea, Poseidon,” and the second scene, which represents the “Battel of the Amazons.”

Director General of Antiquities and Museums, Muhammad Nazir Awad, noted that the discovery of the new scene gives the painting exceptional importance globally in terms of the subject and the spaces filled with it.

He pointed out that the scene of the Centaur War, assessed by experts and specialists in antiquities, affirms the historical, archaeological and artistic importance of it in Rastan area,which embraces remnants of Aretousa Kindom.

Awad stressed the importance of the painting, which received logistical support from the Ministry of Culture and the Governorate of Homs, in cooperation with Lebanese Nabu Museum, which enabled them to purchase and secure spaces.

Awad noted that based on the ongoing excavations in the place and the painting where it was found, it is likely to be a palace or a government center within the Kingdom.

Syrian-Palestinian talks on services in Palestinian refugees’ camps in Syria

Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Chairman of the Higher Relief Committee, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, discussed with member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, head of Palestinian Refugee Affairs Department Dr. Ahmad Abu Holi the reality of eater and draining service and infrastructures at the Palestinian refugee camps and the possible cooperation projects with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Eng. Makhlouf highlighted, during a meeting the government’s efforts to provide services for Palestinian refugees in camps and other neighborhoods in all cities, stressing the importance of joint cooperation to mobilize all potentials to obtain any support that meets the needs of the Palestinian refugees in Syria.

Abu Holi, in turn, hailed the efforts exerted by the Syrian government to provide services to the Palestinian refugees.

Relatively hot weather, temperatures continue to rise

As the country is affected by a shallow air pressure in the upper parts of the atmosphere, temperatures will continue to rise to become from 2 to 3 degrees above average, Meteorology Department said.

The skies will be clear in general and the weather will be relatively hot and misty in the eastern and al-Badia regions, meanwhile the wind will be westerly to southwesterly with low to moderate speed and the sea waves will be low in amplitude, according to Saturday bulletin

The expected temperatures in some Syrian cities will be as follows:

Damascus 37/21, Daraa 36/19, Homs 36/21, Hasaka 39/25, Tartous 31/22, Aleppo 36/23, Dear Ezzor 41/27.

Stem Cell Therapy Forum kicks off in Damascus

The activities of Damascus Stem Cell Forum, began Saturday with the aim of exchanging experiences and enhancing scientific cooperation in the domain of stem cell therapy.

The Forum is being held by National Center for Stem Cells (Hayat), in cooperation with National Cancer Control Committee (NCCC) at Sheraton Hotel in Damascus.

The event is organized on the occasion of the second anniversary of the opening of the National Stem Cell Center of the Children’s Teaching Hospital, and the debates that will last two days will address the basic sciences of stem cells, the local experience in this field, the presentation of cases clinical.

Ways of how to provide psychological support to patients and their families during the treatment period will also be discussed, as well as indications regarding stem cells in other medical specialties.

Head of NCCC, Dr. Arwa al-Azma, stressed the importance of opening the cell center two years ago, as it was considered an important scientific achievement in the scientific life in Syria, and it is the first in the domain of marrow and stem cell transplantation in children, which works according to the highest international standards, and provided medicines for all children free of charge during the completely treatment period.

In turn, the Director of the Center, Majed Khader, said that it receives all children who need a transplant, and has been able to perform 25 autologous and allogeneic transplants in the last two years.

He indicated that as a result of the great difficulties and lack of some equipment, especially laboratory equipment, there has been cooperation to create agreements and memorandums of understanding with the Tishreen military hospital, the Atomic Energy Authority and the Damascus University Blood Bank, to provide blood products that the patient needs during the transplant, and to provide medicines through donations and associations.
