Awqaf Minister checks on 48-Arab pilgrims conditions in Mecca

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, Head of Jordanian Hajj missions, Mohammad Khalaileh, on Saturday that the Ministry is responsible for the 48-Arab pilgrims, and that His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives have always been to provide the best services and provide means of comfort for Jordanian and 48-Arab pilgrims. “The ministry’s cadres pay great attention to the 48-Arab pilgrims to perform their Hajj rituals with ease,” Khalaileh said during a visit to residences of 48-Arab pilgrims in the holy city of Mecca on Saturday. He pointed out that the administrative mission is working in full swing to provide 48-Arab pilgrims with all services. For his part, Head of the Higher Coordination Committee for 48-Arab pilgrims, Salim Shalata, expressed appreciation for King Abdullah’s support to the Palestinian cause and people. Shalata commended the significant coordination, cooperation and facilities provided by the Ministry of Awqaf and its cadres to the 48-Arab pilgrims, and lauded the level of services and cooperation of the Ministry mission’s cadres.

FM follows up on condition of Jordanians in Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said Saturday it has been in coordination with the Jordanian embassy in Moscow since Friday to check on the condition of Jordanians in Russia “in light of the current developments there”. The ministry’s official spokesman Sinan Majali said that the Jordanian embassy, through its database, reached out to Jordanian citizens who are residing or are studying in Russia to inquire about their situation. Majali called on Jordanians in Russia, in light of the recent events, to take precautions and heed instructions issued by the local authorities there, and contact their embassy around the clock for help on the mission’s hotline number: 0079268469950, the ministry’s Operations Center 00962795497777 or the e-mail (op.ctr@fm.gov.jo).

FM receives US Assistant Secretary of State

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Saturday received US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf. Safadi and Leaf affirmed the depth of the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, and its importance in achieving security and stability in the region. Safadi expressed appreciation for the US support to Jordan to help it face economic challenges and regional crises repercussions. Leaf stressed the importance of Jordan’s role in efforts to resolve regional crises. Safadi and the US official discussed regional issues, including the Palestinian cause, efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, and the Syrian refugees burdens. Safadi stressed the importance of the US leading role in efforts to stop the dangerous deterioration in the occupied Palestinian territories, and to achieve calm, a step towards finding a real political horizon for resolving the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and approved references. The foreign minister called for stopping all illegal measures that undermine the two-state solution, and implementing the commitments of the Aqaba and Sharm El-Sheikh meetings. Safadi stressed the importance of activating targeted efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, pointing out to the Arab efforts that were launched after the Jeddah and Amman meetings, to contribute to reaching this solution according to the step-by-step methodology and in line with UN Resolution 2254. He also called for intensifying efforts to create the necessary conditions for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees, and warned of the decline in their international support, host countries and United Nations organizations. Safadi and Leaf agreed to continue cooperation, coordination and joint action to enhance the solid friendship between Jordan and the United States, and in efforts to resolve regional crises.

Interior Minister: Jordan remains stable amid regional turmoil

Interior Minister Mazen Faraya said on Saturday Jordan remained strong and stable despite the challenges posed by regional turmoil, noting his ministry’s role in promoting the national economy. In a panel discussion held by the Jordan Economic Forum on the ministry’s role in supporting the economy with the participation of parliament members, Faraya gave an overview of his ministry’s economic contributions, including the visa e-service to help attract more investments to the Kingdom. He also cited accrediting the US and Schengen visas for entry to Jordan along with issuing 5-year visas, noting the ministry’s switch to digital services to facilitate the issuance and extension of residence permits for investors and their families. The interior minister also referred to facilities offered to tour companies to help Syrian refugees in Europe, the US and Canada to reunite with their families in Syria and stay with them in Jordan for one month, adding that more than 45,000 Syrians in western countries have visited the Kingdom this year. He also spoke about the ministry’s efforts to fight racketeering.

Price of 21-karat gold records JD39.2 per gramme in local market

Prices of 21-karat gold, the highest demand at local market, on Saturday stood at JD39.20 per gramme, as purchasing price, against JD37.50 as selling price. Jordan Jewelers Association’s Secretary General, Ribhy Allan, told Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the price of 24-karat and 18-karat gold amounted to JD46.20 and JD34.80 respectively. The price of a Rashadi lira, weighing seven grammes, stood at JD284, while an English lira, which weighs eight grammes reached JD315, Allan said. Allan said that projections show that the demand for gold jewelry in the coming days will pick up, as Eid Al-Adha in nearing, and the social events season will kick off. Gold prices in global markets on Friday reached $1,921 per ounce, Allan added.

Syrian film wins Best Screenplay Award at Casablanca Film Festival

Syrian narrative film, Youssef (José’s Journey) won the Best screenplay Award in the Narrative Competition at the fourth edition of the Casablanca Arab Film Festival.

The film “Youssef’s Journey” directed by Joud Saíd, competed with 13 films, and tells the journey of a grandfather carrying his grandson in search of a lost hope for a better life.

The aforementioned festival, organized by Imtidad Association for the Culture and Development of Morocco, began on June 16.
