BERRI MEETS PRESIDENCY DIRECTOR GENERAL, DELEGATION OF FAMILIES OF LEBANESE DETAINEES IN UAE, LEBANON’S AMBASSADOR TO ROMANIA

House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday welcomed at the Second Presidency in Ain El-Tineh, the Director-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Antoine Choucair. Speaker Berri also met with the family of the late Ghazi Ezzeddine, along with a delegation of the families of Lebanese detainees in the United Arab Emirates. This afternoon, Berri received Lebanese Ambassador to Romania, Rana El-Mokaddam.

Australian artist Joseph Tawadros plays oud at Odeon Theatre in Amman

Australian composer and oud player Joseph Tawadros Tuesday evening performed a concert on oud at the Odeon Theater in downtown Amman. The Australian Ambassador, Bernard Lynch, who attended the concert, valued in a speech he delivered the cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and the Department of Antiquities in holding this ceremony. Lynch added that the Australian embassy would donate to the “Thareed” initiative, supported by a charity located in downtown Amman to combat hunger and malnutrition. He talked about Tawadros, whom he described as a “creator and one of the most prominent oud players in Australia,” adding that the artist’s music “embodies” the cultural diversity in Australia. Tawadros played the “dreaming home” and an-inspired piece by the poems of Gibran Khalil Gibran and pieces in an unconventional and different style. He played a piece titled “Permission to Evaporate” and a piece inspired by when he was on one of his visits to Paris next to the well-known Gare de l’Est. He played the Waltzing Matilda, an Australian folk song in an oriental style, concluding the evening with the bluegrass piece. The embassy-organised event was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Imad Hijazin, and the Director General of the Department of Antiquities, Bilal Balaawi.

New wells to pump 4mcm of water this summer

Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohammad Najjar on Tuesday checked on the Water Authority’s scheme to drill 12 wells in the Jordan Valley to provide 4 million cubic meters of water this summer. During a visit to the site, he said the drawn water, which will be pumped through King Abdullah Canal for drinking purposes, will have a tangible effect on the water supply across all regions. The construction of one well has been finished and is now pumping 100 cubic meters/ hour, according to the minister

Jordan delegation participates in preparatory meetings for Arab summit in Jeddah

A Jordanian delegation is participating in the meetings on the permanent delegates and senior officials level in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, ahead of the preparatory meeting of Arab foreign ministers for the Arab Summit’s 32nd session. Jordan’s permanent representative to the Arab League, Amjad Adaileh, briefed the gathering about Jordan’s efforts and support to enhance Arab cooperation and consensus on pan-Arab issues and ways to build on commonalities and regional challenges. Aaileh lauded Saudi Arabia for hosting and organising the work of the thirty-second session of the Arab Summit, lauding the General Secretariat of the Arab League for coordinating and supporting the meetings. Adaileh welcomed the return of the delegations of Syria to participate in the Arab League meetings. The agenda of the Arab Summit would discuss the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories and the two-state solution, regional developments and crises.

PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN RECEIVES PRESIDENT OF THE ARAB PARLIAMENT IN THE CAPITAL BAKU

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, commended the significant role played by the Arab Parliament in the field of parliamentary diplomacy and the defense of Arab and Islamic issues, and praised the keenness of the President of the Arab Parliament to strengthen Arab relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan at all levels, notably in light of the historical, cultural and religious commonalities between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Arab States, and stressed that the relations with Arab States were one of the key pillars of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. This came during the reception by H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of H.E. Mr. Adel bin AbdulRahman AlAsoomi President of the Arab Parliament and accompanying delegation, in the course of his official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the Special Session of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the modern Republic of Azerbaijan, who played a major role in promoting Azerbaijan’s relations with Arab States. President Aliyev added that the late leader Heydar Aliyev had greatly emphasized developing relations with the Arab States, and underlined that this policy is continued today, vividly testified by his multiple meetings with Heads of Arab States and reciprocal visits, and pointed that Arab-Azerbaijani relations are developing successfully at all levels, and expressed confidence that the visit of the President of the Arab Parliament to Azerbaijan would contribute to the expansion of the Arab-Azerbaijani cooperation at the parliamentary level. From his side, AlAsoomi expressed the Arab Parliament’s appreciation for the great role played by the late leader Heydar Aliyev in establishing strong relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the Arab and Islamic States, and paid tribute to the foreign policy of current President Ilham Aliyev and his support for Arab issues primarily the Palestinian question, as well as his keenness to follow his father Leader Heydar Aliyev’s footsteps in enhancing his country’s relations with Arab States as reflected in the remarkable qualitative leap in Arab relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan. The President of the Arab Parliament also commended the strenuous efforts of President Ilham Aliyev under his chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, which during his reign had witnessed qualitative developments and achievements that had contributed to the strengthening of the global role of the Movement and the realization of its noble objectives for which it was established, and added that President Ilham Aliyev’s initiative to establish a parliamentary arm of the Movement under the name of “The Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network” is an addition to his achievements in this field, and emphasized the Arab Parliament’s keenness to participate actively in this Network since its establishment. The Arab Parliament’s delegation included H.E. MP. Dr. Abdualslam Nasia and H.E. MP. Dr. Hanan AlFatlawi, and from the General Secretariat Mr. Ahmed Tarek.

King receives delegation from British Royal College of Defence Studies

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received a delegation from the British Royal College of Defence Studies, which includes officers from several countries, according to a royal court statement. The meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, covered various regional and international issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, in addition to efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises, and counter terrorism within a holistic approach. Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti attended the meeting.
