Abu Dhabi, May 15, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Insilico Medicine, a clinical-stage generative artificial intelligence (AI)-driven drug discovery company, has appointed Michael Bayewitch, PhD, as Vice President (VP) of Business Development and Strategy. Based on the U.S. West Coast, Dr. Bayewitch will work closely with Alex Zhavoronkov, PhD, founder and CEO, Feng Ren, PhD, Co-CEO and CSO,  and Michelle Chen, PhD, Chief Business Officer. He is responsible for driving business development activities and developing attainable operation strategies to support Insilico’s continued growth.

Dr. Bayewitch is an accomplished industry veteran with more than 22 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including in due diligence and in/out-licensing transactions, focusing on oncology, autoimmune diseases, and respiratory diseases. Prior to Insilico Medicine, he worked for international mid- and large-size pharmaceutical companies including ITI Life Sciences, Teva Pharmaceuticals Inc., and EOC Pharma, and most recently served as Executive Director of International Business Development for Simcere Pharmaceutical Group, where he performed opportunity identification, analysis, and forecast resulting in multiple licensing deals.

Syrian Artist Syndicate announces the death of director Hisham Sharbatji

Artist Syndicate in Syria mourned the death of renowned director Hisham Sharbatji at age of 75.

Sharbatji is considered one of the most influential directors in the course of the Syrian drama, especially during the last twenty-five years, and his presence shaped a qualitative renaissance in its history, and he played a prominent role in reaching what it is gained now through the various works that he directed, and they obtained wide fame locally and in the Arab world.

Born in the city of Damascus in 1948, he was educated in its schools, and obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Academy of Arts (Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts) in Cairo in 1972, after which he traveled to Germany to complete his studies.

One Palestinian injured, five others arrested in Jericho city

One Palestinian was injured and five others were arrested on Tuesday at dawn as the Israeli occupation forces stormed Aqbat Jabr camp in Jericho city of the West Bank.

The Israeli troops stormed the camp, opened fire on the Palestinians and threw toxic gas bombs at them, causing the injury of one of them, as he was rushed to the hospital for treatment, according to Wafa News Agency

Scored suffered of suffocation, as the occupation forces prevented ambulance crews from reaching the injured to treat them and they also arrested five Palestinians

While storming different areas of the West Bank on Monday evening, the occupation forces killed one Palestinian and arrested others.

Sousan: Arab Summit hosted by Saudi Arabia is a new beginning of joint Arab action

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Sousan affirmed that the Arab League summit to be held in Saudi Arabia is the beginning of a new phase of joint Arab action.

“The meeting covered serious and transparent debates that dealt with draft resolutions on the agenda,” the Assistant Minister stated in a press release following the senior officials meeting held Tuesday in Jeddah.

“There is a recognition of the need for Jeddah summit to be the threshold of a new phase of joint Arab action and to overcome the implications of the past,” Sousan said.

He added that the Syrian delegation was highly welcome in these meetings as “we all strive as Arabs to unify our efforts to fortify the Arab position and respond to the different challenges facing the Arab nation, notably the development and changes on the international arena.”

“We hope that this summit will meet the aspirations of our peoples. Topics discussed various issues related to Sudan and Libya and other countries as well as the return of Syrian refugees,” he added.

Asked about the return of the Syrian refugees, Sousan clarified that the Syrian government has issued amnesty degrees and national reconciliations in addition to facilitation procedures for their return. However, that requires providing services in the areas of these citizens, and thus their return is highly linked to the reconstruction process.

On the other hand, Assistant Minister declared that the sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria hinder the decent return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland.

Syrian-Chinese discussions to enhance cooperation in the field of housing and reconstruction

Minister of Public Works and Housing Suhail Abdul Latif discussed with China’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Damascus Shi Hongwei means of boosting cooperation between the two countries in the housing and reconstruction areas.

During the meeting held Tuesday, Minister Abdul Latif attached great importance to translate the directives of President Bashar al-Assad for promoting the economic ties between Syria and the friendly countries up to the high level of those political.

He also noted the importance of learning from the Chinese expertise in the field of housing in a way that contributes to the reconstruction process and the supplying of equipment to detect the buildings damaged over the devastating earthquake.

The Minister valued China’s continued support to Syria and its honorable stances at the international and local forums in addition to providing aid to those affected by the earthquake.

Ambassador Shi Hongwe, for his part, affirmed his country’s firm support to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, highlighting the need for enhancing mutual support and cooperation, particularly in the housing and reconstruction areas.

Accordingly, he noted that China is working on transferring mechanisms and techniques that contribute to detecting quake-affected buildings.

Spring weather prevails in most regions

Temperatures will continue to rise to become from 5 to 8 degrees above average in the coastal region, while it will become from 2 to 4 in the other regions as the country is affected by a high air pressure in all layers of the atmosphere, according to Meteorological Department

The weather will be hot in the coastal region, clear to partly cloudy skies in the other regions, misty in the eastern and al-Badia regions, the wind will be easterly to northeasterly with low to moderate speed, while the sea waves will be low in amplitude, according to Tuesday bulletin.

The expected temperatures in some Syrian cities will be as follows: Damascus 30/18, Daraa 33/19, Homs 35/20, Hasaka 33/19, Tartous 33/19, Deir Ezzor 34/20.
