Education Ministry, PSD sign MoU to enhance community peace

Ministry of Education and Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance students’ role in renouncing violence, hatred and negative phenomena, volunteer, serve the community and develop their skills. The agreement was signed by Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Azmy Mahafzah and PSD Director, Maj. Gen. Obaidullah Maaytah. Speaking during the signing ceremony, Mahafzah said cooperation with PSD’s Community Peace Center contributes to helping youth avoid extremism dangers and spread concepts of dialogue, moderation, tolerance. Mahafzah added that this joint action helps efforts aimed to counter acts that affect social security intellectually and behaviorally, voicing the ministry’s keenness to enhance cooperation with PSD, which reflects “positively” on the Kingdom’s security and serves its interets. For his part, Maaytah said the directorate’s Community Peace Center was launched under PSD’s strategic plan aimed to achieve community peace and addressing its negative phenomena by orchestrating efforts and opening channels of contact with all civil institutions, which would instill moral values in students. Maaytah noted PSD believes that concept of comprehensive security requires openness to “participatory and cooperative” relations with all official and civil institutions and support to achieve its security and humanitarian message. Under the memo, training projects for educational staff and school students will be launched at PSD’s Community Peace Center, and involving youth leaders in dialogue initiatives.
