Zasypkin visits Hennawi, hopes for military cooperation with Lebanon

SEPTEMBER 3, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Minister of Youth and Sports, Abdula Mottaleb Hennawi, on Wednesday met at his office in the Ministry with Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, with talks touching on the Lebanese-Russian bilateral ties.

The envoy told reporters following the meeting that the pair agreed to send Russian trainers to Lebanon in the fields of sports.

“We discussed an array of media and regional affairs, whereby I confirmed Russia’s support for Lebanon’s security and stability because there are conflicts in the region and dangers threatening Lebanon, on top of which the danger of terrorism,” he added.

“We must be all in solidarity with Lebanon,” he stressed.

“Terrorism does not only endanger Lebanon but it is a problem for everybody,” he said, highlighting the necessity to form a coalition based upon the capacities of the UN as well as to develop the international efforts.

Pointing out to the support of the international community through the International Support Group for Lebanon, Zasypkin indicated that there were negotiations about military cooperation between Russia and Lebanon. “We hope that there would be positive results in that respect during the upcoming phase,” he concluded.
