KHARTOUM, Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed received at his office here Monday the the United States Ambassador to South Sudan, Thomas Hushek, who was accompanied by the US Charge d’Affaires to Khartoum, Steven Koutsis.
The minister reviewed with the peace efforts undertaken by Khartoum in facilitating discussions between the rival groups in the South Sudan conflict to seek a reconciliation and which has recently culminated in the signing of an agreement on the principles and the security arrangements for reconciliation between the two parties.
He also reviewed the future of the mediation team which he described as reviving the South Sudan peace agreement which was signed in Agust 2015.
Dr. Al-Dirdiri affirmed the importance of the international community’s support to the peace efforts in South Sudan and providing the required political and material support to guarantee the achievement of inclusive and durable peace in South Sudan.
The meeting also reviewed the state of relations between Sudan and the United States and underscored the continuation of their co-operation in all fields.
The meeting also discussed regional issues and affirmed the importance of support to the regional peace and security.
