KHARTOUM, A United States Congressional delegation will arrive here early next week for a three-day visit to Sudan in the context of a programme for the exchange of visits between the ;legislative and executive arms of government of the two countries.

A preparatory meeting for the visit of the US delegation was held here Thursday, chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ibrahim Ahmed Omer, and attended by Cabinet ministers from the economic cluster — Ministers of Petroleum and Gas, Mining and Animal Resources and Fisheries and the State Ministers of Finance and Industry — as well as heads of the National Assembly’s committees and their deputies.

The meeting discussed plans to brief the visiting delegation on Sudan’s agricultural, livestock, forestry, industrial, oil and mining sectors.

Members of the US Congressional delegation will be meeting with the National Assembly members and address one of its sittings and will also meet with the Committee for the National Dialogue. They will also review with Sudanese government officials ways of resuming the Sudanese-US dialogue and matters relating to investment.

The US delegation will be briefed on the the human rights situation in Sudan at a meeting with Islamic and Christian religious leaders and will visit a number of universities, institutions, business centres and representatives pf communication companies and other businessmen.
