WAM ABU DHABI, 27th February, 2014 (WAM)–H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, has said that the vote by the European Parliament to exempt Emiratis from the need to apply for visas for the Schengen group of countries reflects the visionary leadership exhibited by the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a legacy being followed by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to elevate the image of the UAE and its care for its citizens.

He told the Dar Uloom bulletin in a phone call from Seoul, broadcast by Abu Dhabi TV channels that “the achievement is an acknowledgement by the EU of the UAE’s status.” Sheikh Abdullah praised the good conduct of Emirati citizens in EU countries, noting that this had played a pivotal role in the EU Parliament’s decision.

Asked whether this achievement reflects the saying that UAE people are the “Happiest People”, Sheikh Abdullah said happiness is attained by hard work, adding that “We have to think how best to elevate the country and how could citizens feel greater happiness. Only this distinguishes us from others.” He said the UAE deserves more and Emirati citizens deserves more and more. “Through our concerted work, we can reflect the prestigious image of country whether in the UAE or abroad.” WAM/Majok
