MUSCAT: With holiday rush expected at the Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) has decided to open Ras al Hadd for turtle watchers.

“The ministry has generously agreed on the terms that whenever we are full at Ras al Jinz, Ras al Hadd will be opened to visitors,” Vijay Handa, cluster manager, Masirah Island Resort and Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve, said.

People looking to travel to Ras al Jinz and Masirah Island need to hurry as both the places are witnessing a holiday rush. Handa said that both the properties were nearly fully booked until October 10 with only a few rooms available on certain days. Handa said those wishing to visit the reserve should book the turtle watching tour in advance. “Our turtle watching tours are nearly sold out and we have kept a few slots for hotels in Sur. We request anyone wishing to come here to book in advance as it is quite sad to turn people away, who usually come from Muscat covering over 300km.”

With the launch of ferries by the National Ferries Company on the Masirah-Shannah route, Handa said that the journey has become hassle-free for tourists.

“Customer satisfaction has gone up among the travellers to Masirah since the ferry was launched.”
