KHARTOUM, Sudan’s Defence Minister, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Ahmed Ibn-Oaf, received at his office here Tuesday the South Sudan Army Chief of Staff, Gen Gabriel Zuk Riek, who is in the country for bilateral talks on military co-operation between the two countries.
Sudan’s Army Chief of Staff, Lt-Gen Kamal Abdul-Maarouf, was also present at the meeting during which the two sides discussed issues of common interest regarding security and stability in the two countries.
The Minister of Defence affirmed the special relations between the two countries and the exchange of visits between the commanders of the Armed Forces of Sudan and South Sudan for discussing issues of mutual concern.
Meanwhile, Gen Riek commended the efforts being exerted by Sudanese government, its Ministry of Defence and its Armed Forces in convincing the South Sudanese groups which previously opposed the government to sign the peace agreement.
He stressed the importance of co-operation and strengthening the relations between Sudan and South Sudan.
Gen. Kamal Abdul-Maarouf described the talks between the Sudanese and South Sudanese delegations as constructive and fruitful and resulted in agreement on implementation of all the outstanding files in the relations between the two countries before the end of the current year.
He said that the two sides discussed cooperation between the two Armed Forces in the field of training and formation of joint forces.
