MUSCAT: The 13th International Conference on Semi-Solid Processing of Alloys and Composites (S2P) began at GUtech, on Monday.
Present on the occasion were H E Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Finance, Sheikh Abdullah Salem al Salmi, executive president of Capital Market Authority and members of the board of governors and board of directors of GUtech.
Sponsored by The Research Council, the three-day conference will see a total of 59 presentations which will address the recent developments and applications in the field of semi-solid processing. This process was invented 30 years ago at MIT.
“We are proud to welcome the co-inventor of the process, Professor Dr Merton Flemmings from MIT as the guest of honour,” said Professor Dr Michael Modigell, rector of GUtech, who is also head of the organising committee of the S2P.
In his welcome speech, Professor Dr Modigell emphasised the achievements of the higher education sector in the sultanate and gave an overview of the development of GUtech.
