Syrian children present their country’s history and civilization in Minsk

Syrian children on Sunday participated in an event held at the Belarusian National Health Education Center (Zubronok camp) under the title “Syrian-Belarusian Friendship Evening”.

The children presented a number of national, traditional and heritage shows that express the history and civilization of Syria and the identity of the Syrian national heritage.

During the event which was attended by Syrian Ambassador to Belarus, Muhammad al-Omrani, the visitors expressed their admiration of the shows innovated by the children of Syrian Distinction and Creativity Agency, who are participating in the third camp organized by the Republic of Belarus this year.

The camp, which started on August 10th , is the third of its kind hosted by the Republic of Belarus for Syrian children this year, and it will continue until August 23rd with the participation of 75 children from Distinction and Creativity Agency.

Jordanian students head to school Sunday as new academic year begins

More than 1.7 million students are waking up for school tomorrow morning in the Ministry of Education, UNRWA and Military Culture schools. According to the Ministry of Education, 1.7 million students are enrolled in 4,271 schools, 4,062 of which are run by the Ministry of Education. The number of students who obtained admission to transfer to government schools from the private sector as of Saturday morning was about As of Saturday morning, more than 15,700 children left private schools and enrolled in public schools. The number is subject to increase within the first two weeks of the academic year, after which public schools would stop admitting new students. The Ministry announced that the number of teachers appointed reached 2006, including 766 teachers holding a pre-service teacher qualification and preparation diploma. According to the statement, the Ministry added that the number of applications for fixed-term teachers is 107,000. The number of administrative and teaching staff assigned to Syrian-student schools reached 5,800.

JUST, Iraqi Anbar university sign MoU

The Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), and Iraqi University of Anbar, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday, to enhance the research and educational process at both universities. The MoU stipulated the exchange of academic and educational expertise, students, joint supervision of graduate students, academic materials, and the activation of joint scientific research between the two sides. The two sides lauded ties between Jordan and Iraq, which were established by the leaderships of the two countries in all fields, especially in the educational sector. The MoU was signed by JUST president Khaled Al Salem and Anbar University president Mushtaq Al Nada. Al Salem said JUST keen on consolidating ties with prestigious Arab and international universities to bring about new blood into the educational and research process and open new horizons to faculty and students in both universities. Al-Nada said that the MoU serves the educational and research process at Anbar University, due to the distinguished JUST’s scientific competencies in various scientific fields, and a good international reputation.

RSS launches Green Chemistry Prograrm

The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) launched the project titled: “Global GreenChem (GC) Innovation and Network Inclusion Program”. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and executed by Yale university in partnership with the national executer, Jordan’s Cleaner Production Unit (CP-unit) at the Water, Environment and climate change Center of RSS. Within its work plan, which extends to year 2028, the project aims to apply the principles of green chemistry to assist participating countries, including Jordan, in promoting green entrepreneurship, and stimulating green research and innovation towards sustainability, in order to achieve the goals of the circular economy, the RSS said in a statement. It also aims to provide sustainable solutions to reduce the health and environmental impacts of the use of hazardous chemicals in industry and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the statement added. Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, Muhammad Al-Khashashneh, indicated that the ministry seeks to adopt the concept of the circular economy and works to get rid of hazardous chemicals through the principles of green chemistry. He said the program intersects with the national system in various fields, including reducing emissions and prevention pollution. RSS Vice President Rafat Assi referred to the society’s role in adopting and implementing cleaner production concepts and the concept of green chemistry, which would enhance Jordan’s environmental performance towards true sustainability. Assi highlighted the prominent role that the RSS plays through its Water, Environment and Climate Change Center (WEC) and the Cleaner Production Unit respectively in promoting green transformation in all sectors. The founder of green chemistry from Yale University and the programs Principal Investigator (PI), Paul Anastas, gave remarks online, where he welcomed the participants and wished Jordan success in the project’s implementation. The Program Manager from UNIDO, Rodica Evan, explained the purpose behind this initiative and the organization’s role in promoting the adoption of green chemistry concepts by industry. The Program Director from Yale University, Karolina Mellor, along with the Accelerator program Expert, Matthew Moroney, outlined the project’s global work plan and goals and highlighted the importance of integrating the concept of green chemistry into development plans across all society spheres. Omar Al-Saleh, Senior Environmental Studies Specialist at RSS and the programs national focal point, presented the interrelationship between the project and the national goals, including the Economic Modernization Vision, as well as the global sustainable development goals. AlSaleh explained the relationship between green chemistry and circular economy, while also presenting the detailed project work plan. The event also hosted a panel discussion session on topics related to the concept of circular economy and the importance of linking research outputs related to green chemistry with industry, in addition to the roles played by public customs and chambers of industry in promoting the application of the Green Chemistry concept and cleaner production. The event was a success hosting various primary stakeholders from the public and private sector, government agencies, academic institutions, chambers, industrial cities, private companies, civil society institutions, as well as international development institutions, said the statement. Regional National Cleaner Production Center (NCPCs) were also invited engaging everyone through a comprehensive introduction to green chemistry and its interdisciplinary benefits. It was an opportunity to get everyone on board of this national transition and seize the right and relevant intervention, according to the statement.

Petra partakes in training course in China

The Jordan News Agency (Petra) is participating in a training course targeting press officers and journalists from Arab countries. The course is hosted by the Advanced International Education and Training Center of the China International Telecom Group and sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. The two-week session aims to enhance friendship between China and Arab countries and cooperation in media and other fields, as well as promote the development of economic and social human resources. In addition to journalists from Petra, journalists from Palestine, Iraq, and Morocco are participating in the training course, which includes various lectures and seminars on the coverage of international news by the Chinese media, cooperation between the Chinese and Arab media, and other topics. The course also includes lectures related to Chinese-Arab cooperation within the framework of the security initiative, and an overview of the national conditions in China, in addition to visits to Chinese commercial and tourism sites. In addition, the Deputy Director of the Center for International Education and Advanced Training of the China International Telecommunications Group Fang Fan stressed the importance of the course in strengthening Chinese-Arab relations in the field of media, exchanging experiences and information, and developing media skills, in addition to informing the world and Arab countries of the reality of China. She touched on the role of the center and the work it carries out in the field of media publishing, studies and research with the aim of strengthening Chinese relations with various countries of the world, explaining that the center has published 4,000 books in more than 40 languages, edited 36 multilingual periodicals, and published books and periodicals for more than 180 countries. During the opening, the Deputy Director of the International Research and Training Department at the Center, Feng Yen, spoke about the most important topics of the course and their importance in strengthening Chinese-Arab cooperation in the media field.
