SULTANATE, EU SEEK TO BOOST COOPERATION, DISCUSS OUTCOME OF BLUE ECONOMY MEET

MUSCAT: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) received in his office on Tuesday, Christoph Ritz, advisor of international affairs at the European Commission and H E Adam Colakh, Ambassador of the European Union to the sultanate.

They discussed a number of issues of common concern, and reviewed areas of bilateral and regional cooperation and the outcome of the International Symposium on Blue Economy, which was held to discuss tapping the economic potential of countries surrounded by seas by creating more jobs for the youth and business opportunities for small and medium enterprises.

It also discussed ways to boost cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the sultanate. The meeting was attended by Mosa bin Hamdan al Taie, head of the international cooperation department and the plenipotentiary minister and Dr Abdullah bin Salim al Harthy, head of the EU department in MoFA.

The two-day symposium on blue economy organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the European Commission which concluded earlier in the day at Grand Hyatt Muscat discussed means of boosting economic activities and cooperation in marine, logistic and navigational fields.

The last day of the session had discussions on blue energy, marine safety and monitoring and spatial and regional planning and environment protection.
