Sudan’s FFC conduct consultations to build broad coalition

The Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) have intensified consultations with the forces of the revolution in order to forge a united front to topple the military junta and restore civilian rule, a leading member said on Monday.

The coup of October 2021 accentuated divisions among the pro-democracy forces as the FFC Central Council saw the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) led by Hadi Idris consolidating its alliance with the military component.

Also, the protests spearhead Resistance Committees becoming more distant from the FFC Central Council. While the Communists seek to establish a radical political alliance involving the non-signatory groups.

“The Forces for Freedom and Change hold consultations with the revolution’s forces to establish a unified front to overthrow the coup and restore the civilian-led democratic transition,” FFC leadership member told the Sudan Tribune.

He added that these consultations do not aim to merge the forces of the revolution into one organizational structure, but rather unit them on one front with agreed goals.

Salih did not specify a date for announcing the front, adding “We would announce it as soon as the consultations ended and the goals were agreed”.

The Resistance Committees, on May 18, proposed a political platform dubbed “the People’s Authority” but required that the political forces individually sign it rejecting its endorsement by political coalitions.

The neighbourhood committees reject dialogue with the military saying they should be removed and tried for their crimes.
