KHARTOUM, Sudanese Vice-President Hassabo Mohamed Abdul-Rahman received at his office here Sunday the visiting Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, and affirmed the keenness of Sudan to cement its relations with Ethiopia and to resolve all challenges facing bilateral relations, especially at the joint border, through joint technical committees.
Hassabo congratulated the Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister on the positive developments in his country and the resumption of relations with its neighbour Eritrea.
Sudanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohamed Abdalla Idris said in a media statement that the meeting focused on the importance of strengthening co-operation between the two countries and the co-ordination between Sudan and Ethiopia regionally and internationally on issues of mutual concern.
He said the Vice-President called for the convening of a meeting of the joint Higher Sudanese-Ethiopian Committee in the third week of September.
Idris indicated that Demeke expressed his country’s appreciation of Sudan’s support to Ethiopia and praised the great efforts of Sudan for realizing reconciliation and signing of peace agreement between the warring faction in the South Sudanese conflict.
