KHARTOUM, Sudan has welcomed the decision by the Ethiopian parliament to select Abiy Ahmed as the country’s new prime minister.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry congratulated the Ethiopian leadership over its wisdom represented in overcoming the difficult challenges the country had faced recently.
It expressed the hope that the selection of a new prime minister would enhance political stability as well as economic and social development in Ethiopia, contribute to boosting the progressive Sudanese-Ethiopian ties and keep Ethiopia’s essential role in the regional and international arenas.
The Ministry further reiterated Sudan’s readiness to continue co-operation with the new Ethiopian leadership in all fields in a manner that achieves the ambitions of the Sudanese and Ethiopian peoples in security, stability and development.
Abiy Ahmed has been selected after Hailemariam Desalegn, who had been Ethiopia’s prime minister since 2012, announced his intention to resign on Feb 15.
