JUBA, The final version of the peace agreement for South Sudan will be signed on Monday, official sources noted in an announcement.
South Sudanese Information Minister Michael Makuei assured that the parties ‘reached consensus on the final draft of the document and we hope to sign it in Khartoum (the capital of Sudan) on August 27.’
He added that the warring parties have ironed out most of their differences that we discussed during the third round of peace talks in Khartoum on August 13, which covered issues that were not resolved in the framework agreement, including the redistribution of power and security matters.
The issues on debate were the vice presidents’ authority, the setting up of committees to draft the Constitution, the judicial committee and the number of states and their borders.
The final text is the summary of the agreement signed in the Sudanese capital by South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit, and his main opponent, former Vice President Riek Machar, who was dismissed by the former in 2013 after accusing him of organizing a plot to assassinate him and take over power.
