MUSCAT: As many as 423,662 people visited Salalah during the Khareef season till September 7 compared to 421,835 during the same period in 2013, an increase of 0.4 per cent.
Figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reveal that Omanis constituted 76.1 per cent of the total visitors while other GCC citizens comprised 16.1 per cent.
NCSI statistics show that the total number of GCC visitors (including Omanis) reached 390,592 compared to 389,360 during the same period in 2013, an increase of 0.3 per cent.
Also, the total number of visitors from other Arab non-GCC countries recorded an increase of 57.6 per cent – 7,410 visitors in 2014 compared to 4,702 recorded over the same period last year.
The total number of visitors from Asian countries was 22,729 compared to 25,255 in 2013, a decline of ten per cent while those from Europe reached 1,859 compared to 1,775 last year, a rise of 4.7 per cent.
The total number of visitors from the Americas increased by 31.6 per cent, recording 616 this year compared to 468 in 2013, while the total number of visitors from Africa decreased by 18.3 per cent – 125 in 2014 compared to 153 during the same period in 2013. ‘Visitors from Oceania increased by 16.5 per cent reaching 141 compared to 121 visitors during the same period in 2013.’
NCSI statistics show that 119,165 visitors took flights to Salalah (102,942 domestic and 16,223 international) while 304,497 drove to the governorate.
