MUSCAT: In collaboration with the ROP, Bank Muscat on Monday launched a state-of-the-art biometric system compatible with the national identification card (NID).

Maj Gen Sulaiman bin Mohammed al Harthy, assistant inspector general of police and customs for financial and administrative affairs, unveiled the new system in the presence of AbdulRazak Ali Issa, chief executive, Bank Muscat, senior bank and ROP officials.

The biometric identification system available across the bank’s network of 138 branches is aimed at improving efficiency and speed of transaction especially when opening new accounts.

The facility enhances customer experience with a one-touch identification and transaction authentication process. In line with the e-governance initiative of the government, the new facility is faster, convenient and risk-free for secure banking transactions.

Maj Gen Harthy congratulated Bank Muscat for collaborating with ROP in introducing the biometric system. He emphasised the importance of investment in latest technologies to facilitate innovative services. “Over the years, the ROP has introduced various services using modern technologies, benefiting citizens.”

Issa said, “As the flagship bank in Oman, we are proud to take the lead in introducing the new biometric system which reiterates our success in defining new trends in banking services and improving customer experience.

“The new biometric system reflects our commitment to provide the ‘best in class’ service as we continue to invest in cutting edge technology and IT infrastructure.”

To authenticate banking transactions, the NID is required to be inserted in the biometric machine and customers have to validate their identity by scanning their finger print.
