Recognition as best events city befits Dubai’s image, UAE paper
Abu Dhabi: The recognition for Dubai as a world-class destination for hosting events conferences and exhibitions once again highlights the position the emirate holds in its mastery of organising and staging major global events, Gulf News opined.
Dubai has been hosting the annual Dubai Shopping Festival and Dubai Summer Surprises that have become benchmark mega festivals for the region. However, the city made its mark when it hosted the Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in 2003 that attracted 16,000 participants, the paper said in its today’s editorial.
Meanwhile, Dubai Government is creating a board to further energise the events sector that contributes to its tourism and economy.
In that context, the latest award from the International Festivals and Events Association, recognising Dubai as the World Festival and Event City 2012, reinforces its reputation as a global hub for events. It comes at the right time as the city gears up to host World Energy Forum 2012 next month. The recognition will also help boost Dubai’s bid to host Expo 2020, that will further cement its position as a major events hub, the paper concluded.
