Qatar Supports Efforts to Free Middle East of Nuclear Weapons, WMD

Cairo, October 07 (QNA) – Qatar is committed to support efforts that seek to rid the Middle East of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction (WMD), said HE Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Legal Affairs Department Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Al Hammadi.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) Al Hammadi, who represented Qatar in the preparatory meeting on the Helsinki Conference on a nuclear weapons-free Middle East, said that Qatar is also keen on continuing coordination and good preparation for the 2012 Conference, which is an implementation of the 2010 Review Conference of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Dr. Al Hammadi stressed the importance of crystallizing a unified Arab stance to continue international pressure on Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, pointing out that during today’s meeting participants agreed on the need for international pressure to ensure Israel’s participation in this important conference and commitment to its outcomes to get rid the region of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
