Doha, October 21 (QNA) -The Executive Vice President of Research And Development at Qatar Foundation For Education, Science and Community Development said on Sunday Qatar has the capabilities to play the role of a leading center for scientific research, noting that launching a national strategy for research is a turning point in the recent history of Qatar.
Addressing the opening session of the joint forum of Qatar Foundation For Education, Science and Community Development and the Arab Expatriate Scientists Network, Thomas Zacharia said that the foundation’s sponsorship of the research effort, spearheaded by Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bin Nasser,earmarking 2.8% of Qatar’s GDP for scientific research, giving due attention to partnerships with universities and other research institutions,
developing, translating and transferring those researching into inventions all contribute to making Qatar a leader in the area of research and development.
Zacharia praised HH Sheikha Moaza’s relentless efforts to transform Qatar into a leading center for research and development, noting that such efforts will have a positive impact on local, regional and international levels.
He urged scientists and researchers to think of Doha as one of the most convenient places for research. Qatar’s position on the world’s oil and gas map and its role on the world’s humanitarian level all help implement Qatar’s research strategy.
He said that the inventions that will be made will have links to the fields of health and biomedicine, energy and environment, technology and information , arts and social, human and Islamic studies. (QNA)
