Premier Salam during Cabinet session; Institutions’ work can be properly exercised through president election

JULY 10, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, categorically underlined the need for the election of the President of the Republic, saying the work of constitutional institutions cannot be set right except through such an election.

Premier Salam’s fresh stance came during the Cabinet session which convened this morning at the Grand Serail under his chairmanship to discuss items on its agenda.

Speaking in the wake of the meeting, Information Minister, Ramzi Jreij, said that the Cabinet commenced its session with the signature of a number of decrees which enjoyed the approval of the Council of Ministers in the previous sessions, in line with the signature-based mechanism.

Turning to the Israeli enemy’s assault against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the Cabinet expressed downright condemnation of such a relentless massacre against the unarmed men, women and children.

The Cabinet underscored Lebanon’s solidarity, government and people, with the Palestinian people in their plight and struggle towards the restoration of their legitimate rights.

The Council of Ministers implored the Arab League to take action in support of the Palestinian plight and urged the international community to swiftly intervene to halt the “Israeli killing machine.”

On the subject of the Lebanese University (LU), Minister Jreij said that this matter has been postponed till upcoming session.

In reply to a question, Jreij said “the next Cabinet meeting will be taking place next Thursday in principle.”
