The leadership of the Parties to the Revitalized Agreement of Resolution of the Conflict on South Sudan (R-ARCSS) convened a meeting in Addis Ababa to discuss about the implementation of the peace agreement. This meeting comes a day after the two Principals, President Salva Kiir Mayardir and SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar agreed to extend the Pre-Transitional period for 100 days, beyond the November 12 deadline.
The Parties are expected to review the reports from the Agreement Mechanisms consisting the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC), National Pre-transitional Committee (NPTC), the Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), National Constitutional Amendment Committee (NCAC), Joint Defence Board (JDB), Strategic Defence and Security Review Board (SDSR-B), Joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC).
The spirit and atmosphere of the talks are very cordial and unanimously agreed that the Entebbe Intervention was timely and averted the risk of the country plunging into another cycle of conflicts. The parties emphasised to develop a clear roadmap and an implementation timeline to complete the pending tasks within 100 days timeframe.
The 69th Extraordinary Meeting of IGAD Council of Ministers will follow the meeting of the Parties.
