MUSCAT: An exhibition of canvas paintings by Mumbai-based artist Boshudhara Mukherjee started at Gallery Sarah on Wednesday.
Titled, ‘Soliloquy’ the exhibition was inaugurated by H E J S Mukul, Ambassador of India to Oman.
Speaking about her paintings, Boshudhara said she considered canvas as an integral part of the whole creative process. “To be able to manoeuvre the canvas, I discarded the frame and hung it freely and painted as it was swinging in the air.”
Its movement in the air created distorted and recreated new and unexpected patterns and forms, she said.
Explaining the medium and technique Boshudhara said, “Through my work, I want to blur the line dividing art and craft. My choice of medium is rooted in the so-called ‘higher art’ tradition of painting using canvas, while the technique is rooted in an older craft tradition of weaving. By using two contrary yet long established techniques, a creation is made. And, it is something contemporary.”
The exhibition is open till October 30, from Saturday to Thursday (9.30am to 6pm).
