MUSCAT: It has been over five years now that the Oman Golf Committee (OGC) has been running and uplifting the sport in the sultanate. Buoyed by its fast-expanding role in golf development, OGC has now decided to firmly establish itself in various social media forums.

Rebranded as Golf Oman, the committee, which is backed by the Ministry of Sports Affairs (MoSA), has launched its platforms in Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, while upgrading its Facebook page as well.

OGC is also set to give its existing website, golfoman.com, a makeover.

Through its Twitter handle, Instagram account, YouTube video channel and Facebook events page, OGC aims to share all its activities, news, updates and upcoming programs with fans, media and followers of golf in Oman and the GCC region – a common trend of late among sports bodies worldwide.

Majid al Toky, OGC’s senior board member said, “We have been working out various ways in which we can conduct and improve golf in Oman. So it is time Golf Oman begins to use the social media platforms to reach out to players, members, followers and fans and keep them updated with our activities.” Mundhir al Barwani, chairman of OGC, said, “We will announce details of tournaments, information of our year-round training camps and share photos of Omani golfers participating in competitions. Through our social media presence, we want to make Golf Oman interactive.”
