OFFICIALS OF OMANOIL ATTEND TRAINING COURSE ON OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY IN UK

MUSCAT: Oman Oil Marketing Company’s senior management attended the UK-based Institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s ‘Managing Safely’ training course to gain further insight into global standards for the advancement of safety benchmarks within the company.

Focused on Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), the course is designed to equip leaders with the knowledge to effectively manage risks and resources. Omanoil’s management team, armed with the skills to transform policy into action, aims to fortify the company’s culture of safety by applying innovative, best practices.

Eng Omar Ahmed Salim Qatan, chief executive officer, said, “At Omanoil, we believe there are vast opportunities to learn and progress, irrespective of seniority. It is also our duty as leaders to transfer our knowledge and pass on our years of experience to create a new generation that will take this company forward. Our continuous learning curve has helped us establish emerging methods in enhancing the levels of operational and environmental excellence in accordance with best international practices and HSSE standards.”

Integrating HSSE into its business strategy, Omanoil adopts innovative measures that result in proactive rather than reactive responses to safety hazards. An example of this is the company’s polished track record of 22 years without Lost Time Injury at its Joint Venture Mina al Fahal Distribution Terminal.

Internally, Omanoil implements ‘Safety Observation Conversations’, a systematic tool that identifies potential hazards present in the workplace and encourages employees to prepare preventative lines of action that follow zero-tolerance for accidents.

‘HSSE Champions’ are also appointed to advocate safe practices and ‘HSSE Passports’ are distributed to employees to track their developments through a series of training courses.

At every turn, Omanoil fosters a sense of individual responsibility and encourages employees to proactively engage on HSSE challenges and opportunities with a holistic culture of safety that has authenticated the company’s prominence in the industry.
