NDC Inaugurates its new jackup rig “Qarnin”

WAM ABU DHABI, 17th February, 2014 (WAM) — The National Drilling Company, NDC, has marked the inauguration of its new state-of-the-art jackup rig, “Qarnin”, at a ceremony held in the Hamriyah Free Zone.

“Qarnin” is the third rig in a series of six similar units being acquired by NDC and manufactured by Lamprell Plc.

Qarnin will join the preceding two rigs, “Makasib” and “Muhaiyimat”, which were received earlier. The manufacturing of the remaining three rigs is proceeding on schedule and they will be received as planned in 2014/15.

NDC Chief Executive Officer, Abdalla Saeed Al Suwaidi, highlighted the fact that NDC’s commitment for excellence has enabled it, “to become the reliable drilling services provider in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, through creating steady growth, advancing operational excellence and establishing the highest levels of safety and efficient performance.

“A reliable, modern rig fleet is essential to sustainable success, so NDC launched this major Offshore Rigs Acquisition Project to maintain the highest levels of reliability and availability, and ensure complete preparedness to meet our clients’ present needs and future demands.” Mr. Al Suwaidi explained that the expansion plans for NDC onshore, offshore, and island rigs have resulted in doubling the rig fleet over the past three years, and the growth trend will continue to triple the number of rigs over the next 3 years to 90 rigs. Parallel to that, the company is working vigorously on recruiting the necessary manpower to operate these rigs efficiently and competently. In doing so, a special focus is placed on developing U.A.E. staff through robust recruitment and training programmes. Al Suwaidi confirmed this by saying that, “It is a source of pride that U.A.E. staff number in NDC is now approaching 1,000 employees.” He also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Higher Management of ADNOC, the NDC Board of Directors and the Board Advisory Committee for their guidance and continuous support.

Ali Al Jarwan, Chief Executive Officer of ADMA-OPCO, said that as ADMA-OPCO works persistently and energetically to support ADNOC’s oil production expansion plans, drilling is a very essential part of their operations, and NDC has constantly performed this work with efficiency and competence.

“We congratulate NDC for this achievement and we are confident that they’ll always be the reliable partner for our drilling operation needs,” he said.

Jim Moffat, Chief Executive Officer of Lamprell Plc, said, I am pleased to announce the completion and delivery of this third jack-up rig to NDC, on time and within budget, to world class standards of safety and quality. We look forward to working with NDC on the remaining three projects which are all proceeding well and as planned.” WAM/Esraa/Moran
