MUSCAT: Under a National Business Centre (NBC) programme, entrepreneurs will get a chance to gain more business skills at a ‘boot camp’ in November.

The boot camp will be organised in cooperation with Oasis500, a Jordan-based training company, NBC announced at a press conference at its Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) headquarters in Rusayl on Wednesday.

The boot camp will run from November 16 to 20 at KOM4 building. Present with Malak al Shaibani, director general of NBC was Shatha al Maskiry, country MD, of Protiviti, a consulting firm that worked with NBC to bring Oasis500 to Oman.

Mangala Ramamoorthy, corporate communications manager of Protiviti, said that the workshop will help transform entrepreneurial ideas into reality.

“The idea is to help spread knowledge. It’s about how to put the idea into action,” she said.

There will be interactive workshops, coaching and presentations focusing on financing, marketing and developing business plans, said Shatha. “This is to help prepare entrepreneurs for the next stage,” she said. “We don’t want to stop after this boot camp, but we want to take it to the next level.”

Mulkie al Hashmi, marketing manager, NBC said participants can learn a lot. “We hope they grow and understand business concepts, and become aware of challenges they may face.” Malak said entrepreneurs should be optimistic about what they can accomplish. “Innovation is not tied to one country. Maybe Oman can produce its own Bill Gates,” she said.

All participants will receive a certificate upon its conclusion, while some may be offered space at KOM.
