MRMWR TARGETS SCHOOLCHILDREN IN CLEAN ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

MUSCAT: With the start of the new academic year, the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) has launched a clean environment awareness campaign targeting schoolchildren.

“The campaign, which began from a public school in Ibri, is being led by MRMWR’s directorates general, and is teaching students the importance of having cleaner and healthier surroundings. Tips are also being given on preserving the natural habitat,” a spokesperson said. At the school, there were detailed presentations and cultural competitions.

The spokesperson further added that the programme emphasised on the need to create and maintain a clean and healthy environment in the school and in the community. Children were taught the correct way of collecting and disposing garbage. There was a craft workshop that taught children how to use waste material creatively.

“The ministry is organising this campaign with the aim of increasing awareness levels of students about cleanliness and the environment,” she added.

Meanwhile, Dhahirah has bagged the first spot in the Sultan Qaboos Cup for School Hygiene Competition 2012-13. The second place went to South Batinah governorate, followed by Buraimi, North Batinah and South Sharqiyah.
