Mohamed bin Zayed, Japan’s PM discuss cooperation ties

WAM TOKYO, 26th February, 2014 (WAM)–His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander the UAE Armed Forces, and Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe today discussed the cooperation ties, friendship, issues of mutual interest between the United Arab Emirates and Japan.

Sheikh Mohamed and Abe also discussed the latest regional developments.

The Japanese Prime Minister received Sheikh Mohamed and the delegation accompanying him at the Cabinet headquarters.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed conveyed the regards of UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to the Japanese Prime Minister, wishing more progress and prosperity to the friendly people of Japan.

The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister.

Sheikh Mohamed and the Japanese Prime Minister discussed the historic ties between the UAE and Japan and ways to strengthen them in the light of joint strategic interests.

The two sides stressed to continue bolstering the relations and cooperation ties in different fields to cover the economic, cultural, social, education, scientific research, medical and energy to address endeavours and aspirations of the two countries and friendly peoples.

Sheikh Mohamed expressed keenness on the part of the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to develop stronger ties and bolster bilateral work with Japan in all fields. He noted that the relations between the two countries were witnessing high-profile mutual visits and consultations to further push forward the relations in the best interest of the two countries and peoples.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi thanked the Government of Japan and institutions about their care for Emirati students in Japan, noting that this is well received by the UAE leaders, who see the scholars as potential qualified national human resources.

He thanked the Japanese Prime Minister for the hospitality accorded to the UAE delegation, noting that the gesture reflects the depth of friendship, existing cooperation ties, mutual respect and joint understanding.

For his part, the Japanese Prime Minister asked Sheikh Mohamed to convey his regards to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wishing them good health and prosperity to the UAE people.

The Japanese Prime Minister said the visit of Sheikh Mohamed to Japan reflects strong joint interest to enhance the distinguished relations and cooperation ties in a way that serves the bilateral interests and coordination of positions over the regional and international issues of mutual interest.

He noted that his country is interested to bolster the bilateral relations with the UAE, citing the distinguished status of the UAE in all fields.

The two sides reviewed the growth of the existing ties in all fields and ways to develop them. They expressed interest in joint coordination, expansion of existing partnership, striking more partnership in the public and private sectors, exchanging of expertise in different sectors in the light of distinguished friendship and joint strategic interests.

They exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments and initiatives to safeguard security and stability in the region.

Among others present were Suhail Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of of the Executive Affairs Authority, Nasser Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Counselor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director of the Department of East Asia Affairs, Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Under Secretary of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi’s Court, Abdullah Nasser Al Suwaidi, General Manager of the Abu Dhabi National Petroleum Company and UAE Ambassador to Japan, Saeed Al Nowais.

The meeting was also attended by a number of Japanese ministers and senior officials.

The Japanese Prime Minister hosted a dinner in honour of Sheikh Mohamed and his accompanying delegation.
