The forum, which was organised by the MoH in cooperation with Sanofi Aventis, was opened by Dr. Mostafa Al Hashemi, Deputy Director of Dubai Medical District.

The forum was attended by about 60 members from the primary healthcare association in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, in addition to a number of pharmacists and technicians, as well as doctors from the European Primary Care Diabetes Association. The forum viewed the topic of diabetes, its modern treatment and protection methods, diagnosis, healthy lifestyle, and the benefits of oral and insulin treatment.

Dr. Al Hashemi said, “Organising such a forum raises both scientific and practical standards of the employees of the Ministry of Health especially primary health care human resources, nursing and health education staff. We definitely look into raising our medical services provided to the members and society.” Dr. Mariam Shakir, Family Medicine Consultant, stated that the increasing numbers of diabetes patients among all age categories had been noticed in the past years. Statistics reveal that the region faces lots of challenges contributing to the increasing incidence of diabetes, including less physical activity and high rates of obesity. Having unhealthy food increases the rate of obesity and diabetes. The forum included 5.5 credit hours accredited by the PDCE.
