Mikati visits Rahi in Diman, stresses sacrifice necessary to elect president

SEPTEMBER 3, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday confirmed that Tripoli held onto coexistence and spurned any tampering with any sect.

“This is the core of our education and religious instructions and constitution and this is what we cling to here in Tripoli,” he said.

“Humans are bound to sacrifice for their country and sacrifice is currently very necessary for the country and for everybody. We must not stick to posts but go and elect a new president of the republic,” he added.

“On the level of my own personal experience, if I didn’t find that the Lebanese best interest entailed my resignation, I wouldn’t have resigned,” he corroborated.

Mikati made these remarks following his visit today to Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Beshara Boutros Rahi in Diman, accompanied by MP Ahmad Karami and former Ministers Nicolas Nahhas and Walid Daouk.

He met with the Maronite Bishops Council on the sidelines of their monthly meeting before meeting with Rahi behind closed doors over the current general situation in Lebanon and the broader Arab region.
