MUSCAT: Majis Industrial Services, the sultanate’s key industrial water solutions company, has launched a free meals initiative under its corporate social responsibility framework in support of underprivileged schoolchildren from Batinah Elementary School, Liwa.
The programme was officially inaugurated by Shaikh Dr Saif bin Mohammed al Ghaithi, deputy Wali of Liwa, at a function held at the school.
The food aid programme will provide daily meals to 50 elementary students of families belonging to the low income category at Al Batinah Elementary School in Liwa for the whole academic year 2014-15. Hamood al Manji, HR & administration manager at Majis, handed over a cheque for RO2,400 to the headmistress of the school Aseela al Jabri, at the function.
“A starving body can’t achieve academic excellence. Good health is important in achieving academic excellence. Our goal is to see that all schoolchildren get access to nutritious food so that they can focus on their education. This programme is part of Majis’s CSR policy aimed at sustainable development of local communities,” said Manji.
Appreciating Majis’s goodwill gesture, Aseela said, “We are thankful to Majis for their generosity and social commitment. The free meals programme will go a long way in ensuring that financial concerns don’t hinder academic pursuits of children.”
She presented mementos to officials of Majis Industrial Service and wali’s office in Liwa.
The students performed a beautiful skit highlighting the message that society needs to support the weak and underprivileged so that they can grow up to become successful individuals. The Sohar-based Majis Industrial Services has significantly supported several social initiatives in the area by joining hands with charity and several social groups.
