KUWAIT: GCC TO FORM JOINT NAVAL FORCE

KUWAIT, Oct. 16 — Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states plan to form a joint naval force capable of defending the Gulf region, a Kuwaiti official said Wednesday.

Advisor of Kuwaiti Defense Minister, Major General Ahmad Al-Mulla told (KUNA) Wednesday that the GCC new strategy aims to create a marine corps to protect Gulf waters from threats, a concept similar to the GCC Peninsula Shield Force, but for marine security purposes.

The joint naval force will also patrol commercial routes and protect the Gulf nations’ economic interests, the Kuwaiti official added.
