WAM Abu Dhabi, 25th Feb. 2014 (WAM) – The International Advisory Board (IAB), a body mandated to provide an independent assessment of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, published its sixth and seventh semi-annual reports today.
The reports reflect the discussions and meetings that took place in Abu Dhabi in 2013. In attendance at these meetings were members of the Board of the IAB and UAE entities operating in the nuclear energy sector, which include the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC).
The sixth report covers the first step towards the implementation of the UAE program as ENEC received their construction license. The seventh report outlines the progress of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant licensing and inspection status, as well as the pouring of the first concrete for Barakah (2) Unit.
“I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the tremendous effort put by the UAE entities in addressing the members’ concerns and recommendations” said Dr. Hans Blix, Chairman of IAB.
