MUSCAT: The Indian Social Club, Salalah hosted the internationally acclaimed Sufi Ghazal singer Sonam Kalra’s Rooh-e-Sufi programme on Saturday at the Sultan Qaboos Multipurpose hall of the club.
Manpreet Singh, chairman welcoming Sonam and her troupe said that the event is being held in association with the Indian Embassy. He also thanked the H E J S Mukul, Indian Ambassador to Oman, Shriniwas Babu, first secretary and APS Chauhan, HOC for taking the initiative to arrange the sufi night. Singh also handed over the mementoes to the chief guest and Sonam.
Sasindran U P, vice chairman handed over the mementoes to the accompanying artists of Sonam’s troupe. Dr Khader Nawaz Khan, general secretary, presented a brief sketch of Sonam’s ghazals and her dream project sufi-gospel. E M Ashraf, director, Middle East news and programs at Kairali TV graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Ashraf said that the Salalah Indian Social Club is vibrant and he is aware that under the able leadership of Singh it is conducting different kinds of programmes in the club, which is commendable.
Sonam with her mellifluous voice accompanied by the orchestra, started with a devotional ghazal and mesmerised the audience with her Chal Bullia, and Damadam Mast Kalander. The programme ended with the song Khwaja Mere Khwaja on audience demand. Vinay Kumar, joint general secretary presented the vote of thanks.
