INCREASED PASSENGER TRAFFIC AT MUSCAT, SALALAH AIRPORTS

MUSCAT: Passenger traffic at Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport has registered growth until September this year compared to the same period in 2013.

The total passenger traffic including transit and transfer passengers through Muscat airport increased by six per cent to reach 6.59mn until September this year compared to 6.22mn during the same period in 2013.

Statistics released by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation show an increase in arrivals by five per cent reaching 3.3mn until September this year compared to 3.1mn during the same period in 2013. The number of departing passengers also increased by seven per cent to reach 3.26mn compared to 3.04mn.

In terms of air cargo traffic at Muscat airport, statistics show that the total unloaded and loaded freight increased by four per cent reaching 91,724 tonnes compared to 89,071 tonnes in the same period of 2013.

Meanwhile, Salalah Airport also witnessed 14 per cent increase in the total number of arrivals and departures to reach 643,119 compared to 564,622 during the same period in 2013. As far as the movement of cargo traffic was concerned, it was only 934 tonnes compared to 1,062 tonnes, a decline of 12 per cent.
